HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution - 1127 - Creates Jubilee 75 Committee - 06/10/1982DGV:da RESOLUTION 1127 - 6/10/82 RF.S(1 ETTOW WHEREAS the history of Lubbock is filled with the dreams and the accomp- lishments of thousands of pioneers and pace -setters who have made Lubbock great; and WHEREAS an awareness and appreciation for our past is the momentum for our achievements in the future; and WHEREAS the City of Lubbock, which was incorporated in 1909, will cele- brate its 75th anniversary in the year 1984, NOW THEREFORE: BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK: THAT the City Council of the City of Lubbock on this date, June 10, 1982, hereby creates Jubilee 75 to serve as the official planning body for any and all activities to commemorate this occasion, and THAT the members of Jubilee 75 are hereby commissioned to carry out these goals: 1. To coordinate planning and implementation of special events as well as regularly scheduled activities during the year to encourage that each is designed to call attention to the history and the growth of Lubbock. 2. To plan and promote events and activities that will attract the maximum participation by Lubbock citizens in the production of the event, to attract the maximum attendance by Lubbock residents to the activities, and to attract out of town residents to Lubbock for these activities. 3. To encourage businesses and institutions in Lubbock to commemorate their history as part of Lubbock's history and to incorporate an appropriate theme for events scheduled during the year. Membership of the Jubilee 75 Committee shall be composed of 75 citizens appointed as follows: Each member of the City Council shall appoint 15 members to the planning committee. The first two citizens appointed by each Council member shall serve as an executive committee. The first appointee named by the Mayor shall serve as chairman of the executive committee and the Jubilee 75 Planning Committee. Each member of the Executive Committee shall serve as chairman of the following sub -committees: Education, the Arts, Business, Industry and Special Events. It shall be the function of each sub -committee to develop an awareness of each facet of the community of opportunities to participate in the year-long obser- vance of the City's 75th anniversary. Members of the Jubilee 75 Committee shall carry out their duties through the end of the anniversary year, December 31, 1984. The Director of Community Relations for the City of Lubbock will serve as staff liaison with the Jubilee 75 Committee and its sub -committees, providing necessary clerical support for committee activities. Ex -officio members from other city departments may be .appointed.
