RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, the citizens of the City of Lubbock have a vital and ongoing in-
terest in the quality and cost of utility services provided within the City of
Lubbock; and
WHEREAS, the Public Utility Regulatory Act, Vernon's Ann.Civ.St.,..Art.
1446c, provides that public utility rate hearings.shall be held in Austin,
Texas, some 377 miles from Lubbock and even further from many other Texas
towns and cities; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Lubbock deems it to be in the
best interest of the citizens of the City of Lubbock and all other municipa-
lities not located near Austin to encourage amendment of the Public Utility
Regulatory Act to provide for local or regional rate hearings as few individ-
uals can afford an expensive trip to Austin and a several day wait there
before being able to testify; NOW THEREFORE:
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK:
THAT the City Council of the City of Lubbock hereby gives its support to
legislation amending the Public Utility Regulatory Act to provide for rate
hearings to be conducted by the Public,Utilities Commission at or near the
affected area within the State.
Passed by the City Council this 23rd day of September 1982.
