HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution - 1499 - Joint Election - Lubbock County - Held 11/8/83 - 09/22/1983S�Q �C 'Xs DGV:js RESOLUTION 1499 - 9/22/83 _a JOINT ELECTION RESOLUTION WHEREAS, the City of Lubbock and Lubbock County are required to conduct elections on November 8, 1983; and WHEREAS, Article 2.01c of the Texas Election Code provides for joint elections when an election is required upon the same day for two or more political subdivisions occupying all or part of the same territory; and WHEREAS, it is deemed to be in the best interests of the citizens voting in said elections to combine such elections into a joint election in order to reduce expenses and to minimize confusion; NOW THEREFORE: BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK AND THE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF LUBBOCK COUNTY ACTING JOINTLY: THAT a joint election of the City of Lubbock and Lubbock County be held on November 8, 1983, under provisions of the Texas Election Code and other applicable law and in accordance with the following agreed terms: 1. That polling places shall be as have been previously designated by the City of Lubbock in its Election Order and Justice Depart- ment presubmission. 2. That election officials shall be as have been previously desig- nated by the City of Lubbock in its Election Order and presub- mission. 3. That the election shall be administered by the City Secretary of the City of Lubbock within the city limits of the City of Lubbock and by Mr. Frank Guess in areas of Lubbock County outside of the city limits of the City of Lubbock. 4. Ballots and ballot boxes shall be separate, though the same voting devices may be used. 5. Joint absentee balloting will be conducted at the Office of the City Secretary. 6. Preparation of election, supplies, contacting of appropriate officials, publication, posting of notices, maintaining of records, and all other routine matters shall be the respon- sibility of the City Secretary of the City of Lubbock, with appropriate documentation being forwarded to Lubbock County upon completion of the election. 7. That the tabulation of election returns shall be done for the candidates first, and, if possible, tabulate all ballots from the respective precincts each simultaneously. This will be communi- cated to the Lubbock County Computer Center for programming purposes. 8. That the official canvassing of ballots and announcement of results shall be individually by each governing body. 9. That those voting precincts outside of the City of Lubbock shall be conducted by, prepared by, and tabulated by Lubbock County. 10. That in all precincts where there are voters not eligible to vote in both elections, such voters shall be given only such ballot as they are entitled to vote upon. 11. That all costs of the election shall be divided evenly between the City of Lubbock and Lubbock County. In the event that either political subdivision is prevented from conducting an election, the other political subdivision shall bear the entire cost of conducting the election, which shall no longer be a joint election.
