WHEREAS, fourteen Texas communities, including the City of Lubbock,
actively sought selection as the Texas site to be presented to the U. S. De-
partment of Energy for the proposed "Supercollider" project; and
WHEREAS, the process of site selection was a highly competitive pro-
cess with many excellent presentations being made; and
WHEREAS, each community submitting a proposal invested considerable
time, talent, technical expertise and community support; and
WHEREAS, the City of Lubbock desires to congratulate the City of
Amarillo and its surrounding community upon its accomplishment as being se-
lected as one of two Texas sites to be proposed to the Department of Energy;
NOW THEREFORE:
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK:
THAT the City of Lubbock hereby extends its congratulations to the
City of Amarillo and its surrounding community upon its accomplishment as
being selected as one of two Texas sites to be proposed to the Department of
Energy; and
THAT the City of Lubbock recognizes that selection of the Amarillo
site for the Supercollider project will inevitably result in significant
economic and educational benefits, as well as national and international
recognition, not only to the immediate area, but to this entire region of
the State of Texas; and
THAT the City of Lubbock and its surrounding community, as well as the
City Council of the City of Lubbock, hereby offers its political support,
time, talent and technical expertise to the City of Amarillo and its sur-
rounding community in the attempt to gain the Supercollider project for this
region; and
THAT the City Secretary of the City of Lubbock is hereby authorized
and directed to provide a copy of this Resolution to the Mayor and City
Council of the City of Amarillo.
