WHEREAS, the City Council has been requested to establish parallel
recessed parking on a portion of Canton Avenue as hereinafter described,
and after consideration of such request finds that it would be advisable
to allow such request; NOW THEREFORE:

SECTION 1. THAT Mr. Tom Beck, as representative of Bently's Cloth-
ing Store, is the proposed occupant of the old White's Auto store
building on the west side of Canton Avenue south of Furr's Cafeteria in
the general area of Canton Avenue between 50th Street and 52nd Street has
requested recessed parallel parking for vehicles on the West side of
Canton Avenue for approximately 160 feet in length adjacent to the old
White's Auto store building, and the City Council hereby allows, permits
and establishes such parallel recessed parking subject and conditional
upon the terms as hereinafter stated.
SECTION 2. THAT such terms and conditions are as follows:
a. The construction and reconstruction in Canton Avenue
occasioned by this request for recessed parallel
parking shall be paid for by the proposed occupant of
the old White's Auto store building making such
request.
b. The plans and specifications for such construction and
reconstruction occasioned by this request shall be
approved by the City Engineer, and shall be constructed
and/or reconstructed in accordance with the instruc-
tions of the City Engineer to comply with City specifi-
cations for streets in such instances.
c. The 7.5 feet sidewalks presently existing shall become a
6 feet sidewalk and shall be moved to the west six feet
of Canton Avenue in the area concerned.
d. This resolution is to be considered a parking control
measure, and not a grant of any property right in the
street to the proposed occupant of the old White's Auto
store building, or the heirs, successors, or assignees
of such proposed occupant, and the City of Lubbock
retains complete and unimpaired jurisdiction to control

the use of Canton Avenue for the public interest, and
to control parking of vehicles thereon in any manner
considered in the best interests of the public safety
of citizens of the City of Lubbock.
e. All improvements accomplished by such construction
and/or reconstruction located on Canton Avenue
occasioned hereby shall become the property of the City
of Lubbock as a part of the street system of said City.
