WHEREAS, the Urban Renewal Agency began the redevelopment of the
Coronado area in 1958 through acquisition, relocation and replatting of the
Queen: City area; and
WHEREAS, the City Council reviewed and adopted the Chatman Hill
Redevelopment Plan as a guide for short range and long range community
development of the area on May 28, 1987; and
WHEREAS, the City of Lubbock and the Urban Renewal Agency are
currently negotiating the purchase of the Coronado land inventory held by
the Department of Housing and Urban Development; and
WHEREAS, the City of Lubbock executed a Joint Venture for Affordable
Housing with the West Texas Homebuilders Association and.the Department of
Housing and Urban Development to promote residential construction in the
area; and
WHEREAS, the City of Lubbock has allocated during the past year over
$270,000 of Community Development Block Grant funds for neighborhood
improvements in the area; NOW THEREFORE:
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK:
SECTION 1. THAT the City of Lubbock in continuing its efforts to
increase the awareness of the area and to update the identity of the area
formerly known as Coronado, hereby supports and encourages the use of the
name Chatman Hill.
SECTION 2. THAT the City Council directs and designates the Mayor as
the City's Chief Executive Officer and Authorized Representative to act on
all matters in connection with the naming of the Chatman Hill area.
