HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution - 2919 - Establish Young Community Leaders Project Study Committee - 09/22/1988JWF:js RESOLUTION Resolution #2919 September 22, 1988 Item #21 WHEREAS, the "Lubbock 2005" Review Committee recommended to the City Council that the City Council appoint a committee to begin building a frame- work upon which a Young Community Leaders Project can be developed; and, WHEREAS, the City Council after due consideration of such recommenda- tion hereby determines that such recommendation should be implemented in and for the public interest and welfare; NOW THEREFORE: BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK: SECTION 1. THAT it is hereby found and determined that there is a need to develop in the City of Lubbock a Young Community Leaders Project to target young adults (approximately ages 18-31), provide leadership skill training for these potential leaders, and build a leadership base focusing on ethnic minorities and younger persons. SECTION 2. THAT to accomplish the objectives stated in Section 1 above, it is hereby determined that a study committee should be appointed to build a framework upon which such objectives can be accomplished. SECTION 3. THAT there is hereby established an advisory committee to be known as the Young Community Leaders Project Study Committee to be com- posed of seven members appointed by the City Council. One member of such Committee shall be a member of the City Council and the remainder of the members of such committee shall represent a representative sample of geo- graphic and ethnic interests in the City of Lubbock. The Mayor of the City of Lubbock is hereby authorized and directed to appoint one member of such Committee as its Chair -person. SECTION 4. THAT after the Young Community Leaders Project Study Com- mittee is duly appointed and constituted, it shall meet at such times and places as it deems necessary to carry out the purposes for which is was ap- pointed, and shall appoint one of its members as its secretary to record its business and proceedings, and forward any necessary reports to the Mayor and City Council of the City of Lubbock. SECTION 5. THAT the Young Community Leaders Project Study Committee shall begin its work as soon as practicable after its appointment and shall forward its written report and recommendations to the Mayor and City Council before January 30, 1989. SECTION 6. THAT the Young Community Leaders Project Study Committee shall serve at the will of the City Council until such time as the City Council determines the work of the Committee is completed.
