HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution - 3134A - Southwestern Bell Telephone Texas First Plan - 06/22/1989JCR:js RESOLUTION Resolution #3134A June 22, 1989 Item #24 WHEREAS, the City of Lubbock, as a leading community in the State of Texas, recognizes the advantages of having an updated telecommunications network; and WHEREAS, Southwestern Bell Telephone Company has provided the City with a modern, in-place telecommunications network, and has partnered with the City in providing assistance on a variety of economic development efforts; and WHEREAS, Southwestern Bell Telephone Company has presented its "Texas First" plan to members of the Lubbock City Council, the City Manager, and City staff; and WHEREAS, "Texas First" might provide certain advantages to the citi- zens of Lubbock who are Southwestern Bell Telephone subscribers; and WHEREAS, there may be certain economic development opportunities for the Lubbock area and the State of Texas with the "Texas First" plan; and WHEREAS, the Company's existing Minority Vendor Selection Program will be utilized if outside contract labor is required in implementing "Texas First;" and WHEREAS, the "Texas First" proposal is included in the Public Utility Commission's Docket 8585; NOW THEREFORE: BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK: SECTION 1. THAT the Lubbock City Council hereby generally endorses the broad concepts of economic development initiatives as expressed in the "Texas First" plan presented by Southwestern Bell Telephone Company to the Public Utility Commission and requests that the Texas Public Utility Commis- sion give consideration to the economic development aspects of the plan and provide the lowest possible rates to its customers. SECTION 2. THAT this Resolution shall take effect immediately from and after its passage and it is accordingly so resolved.
