HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution - 2020-R0394 - Canvassing Returns and Declaring Results, November 3, 2020 General ElectionResolution No. 2020-R0394 Item No. 3.1 November 12, 2020 RESOLUTION A RESOLUTION CANVASSING THE RETURNS AND DECLARING THE RESULT OF THE GENERAL CITY ELECTION HELD NOVEMBER 3, 2020. WHEREAS, on November 3, 2020, a general election was held in the City of Lubbock, Texas at which the qualified voters of the City had the opportunity to vote for the purpose of electing a Mayor, City Council Members for Districts 2, 4, and 6, and Municipal Court Judge, as provided by law; NOW THEREFORE: BE IT REMEMBERED THAT, on the 12th day of November, 2020, the City Council of the City of Lubbock met at 8:00 o'clock a. m. at the regular meeting place of the City Council in the City of Lubbock Municipal Building with the following members present, Mayor Daniel M. Pope Mayor Pro Tern Jeff Griffith Council Member Juan A. Chadis Council Member Shelia Patterson Harris Council Member Steve Massengale Council Member Randy Christian Council Member Latrelle Joy On Motion of Mayor Pro Tem Jeff Griffith , seconded by Council Member Juan A. Chadis , it is unanimously carried that the returns of the General City Election held November 3, 2020, for the election of a Mayor, City Council Members for Districts 2, 4, and 6, and Municipal Court Judge, as provided by law, be opened and canvassed, and the results of the election be declared therefrom; and said returns having been duly canvassed, it is found that the votes for the various candidates are as follows: CANDIDATES FOR MAYOR Dan Pope Stephen Sanders CANDIDATES FOR COUNCIL DISTRICT 2 Gordon Harris Shelia Patterson Harris VOTES RECEIVED 49,064 38,981 VOTES RECEIVED 2,434 5,427 CANDIDATE FOR COUNCIL DISTRICT 4 Steve Massengale CANDIDATES FOR COUNCIL DISTRICT 6 Latrelle Joy Kaylon Dean Northcutt CANDIDATE FOR MUNICIPAL JUDGE Jorge E. Hernandez TOTAL VOTES CAST IN ELECTION VOTES RECEIVED 17,411 VOTES RECEIVED 6,805 4,583 VOTES RECEIVED 75,314 88,045 And it further appearing that said election was duly held as provided by law and that the following persons received a majority of the votes of the sum total of votes cast for each specified position: POSITION PERSON RECEIVING MAJORITY VOTE MAYOR Dan Pone COUNCIL DISTRICT 2 Shelia Patterson Harris COUNCIL DISTRICT 4 Steve Massengale COUNCIL DISTRICT 6 Latrelle Joy MUNICIPAL COURT JUDGE Jorge E. Hernandez IT IS THEREFORE FOUND, DECLARED AND CERTIFIED BY THE CITY COUNCIL THE CITY OF LUBBOCK: THAT the persons named above as receiving the majority vote for a position are duly elected to the office indicated. 2 Mayor Pro Tern PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED ON MOTION OF Jeff Griffith , SECONDED BY Council Member Juan A.
