HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution - 2020-R0373 - Downtown Facade Grant, Family Promise of LubbockResolution No. 2020-RO373 Item No. 6.13 October 27, 2020 RESOLUTION WHEREAS, pursuant to Article IV, Section 5 of the Amended and Restated Bylaws of the Market Lubbock Economic Development Corporation (the "Corporation"), the City Council of the City of Lubbock (the "City Council"), as the Corporation's authorizing unit, has the authority to approve all programs and expenditures of the Corporation; and WHEREAS, the City Council finds that it is in the best interest of the public to approve the program or expenditure, as proposed to the City Council by the Corporation, as set forth in Exhibit "A" attached hereto and incorporated herein by reference; NOW THEREFORE: BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK: THAT the Downtown Fagade Grant program or expenditure of the Corporation, in the amount set forth in Exhibit "A" attached hereto and incorporated herein by reference, to be provided to Family Promise of Lubbock, is hereby approved pursuant to Section 5 of the Amended and Restated Bylaws of the Corporation. Lubbock Interfaith Hospitality Network, a nonprofit, non -denominational, volunteer -based organization, opened its doors in the fall of 1998 to homeless families with children. In early 2006 Lubbock Interfaith Hospitality Network changed its name to Family Promise of Lubbock. This new name consists of simple words that deliver a powerful message of hope. It is a pledge of their commitment to help families with children achieve stability and self-sufficiency. Family Promise partners with religious congregations, community organizations and local social service organizations to help families achieve sustainable independent. The scope of facade work will include renovating the front porch of the property at 1511 Avenue M, which is located in the Downtown TIF, with expenses totaling $7,172.expenses. The terms and conditions of such Economic Development Grant and Contract, other than the normal terms and conditions applicable to all such Economic Development Grant and Contracts by the Corporation, are described generally as follows, to wit: Grant for the Family Promise of Lubbock, a Downtown Facade Grant for $3,586 for the project at 1511 Avenue M, which is located within the Downtown TIF, once proof of payment has been submitted. WHEREAS, The Board of Directors of MLI finds that an Economic Development Grant and Contract offering the incentive for providing assistance to renovations to their property, meet and comply with the qualifications and purposes of the Corporation for the granting of such Economic Development Grants and Contracts. Upon Motion by Director, Ms. Regina Johnston and Seconded by Director, Dr. John Opperman, IT WAS RESOLVED that MLI offer and, if accepted by Recipient, enter into an Economic Grant and Contract with Family Promise of Lubbock, for the improvements to the building at IS I Avenue M, Lubbock, Texas. Must wait one year from approval to apply again for the same property.
