HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution - 4468 - Creates Hotel/Motel Tax Review Committee - 04/14/1994Resolution No. 4468 April 14, 1994 Item #59 RESOLUTION WHEREAS, the City Council has heretofore indicated a need to analyze opportunities for consolidation and better coordination of resources for the promotion of cultural life and develop ways to increase tourism with an increase in hotel/motel tax; NOW THEREFORE: BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK: SECTION 1. THAT there is hereby created a Hotel/Motel Tax Review Committee to examine current recipients and uses of the hotel/motel tax and recommend opportunities for consolidation and coordination of efforts. In addition, this committee would recommend ways to increase tourism with a focus on increasing hotel/motel tax revenues. SECTION 2. THAT this committee shall be composed of fifteen members to be appointed by the Council from the community. SECTION 3. THAT in keeping with this Council directive, this committee will not be a permanent committee, but will be disbanded upon presentation of its findings and recommendations. Implementation of any recommendations will be accomplished by City staff or other organizations at the direction of the Council. SECTION 4. THAT the Council will select a chairperson and vice chairperson from the committee members and the committee shall establish its own rules of order. The committee shall meet at such times and places as it deems necessary to carry out the purpose for which it was appointed. The committee shall provide to the Council within 30 days after its initial meeting, a time frame in which it expects to accomplish its mission. SECTION 5. THAT the director of Culture and Leisure shall serve as staff liaison to the committee and shall serve as secretary of the committee. The Secretary shall maintain a record of attendance and minutes of the meetings, to be filed with the City Secretary. SECTION 6. THAT the Committee herein created and subsequently appointed by the City Council shall serve at the will of the City Council until such time as the City Council determines the work of the committee is completed.
