Patterson has been a member of the Lubbock City Council for thirteen years and served as Mayor Pro Tem from January 1991 through June 1992; and, WHEREAS, T.J. Patterson has dedicated himself to protecting our children by drawing attention to the problems of drugs, violence and gang activity; and, WHEREAS, T.J. Patterson has established himself as an educator, businessman, soldier, community activist, public servant, and ambassador for West Texas; and, WHEREAS, T.J Patterson has distinguished himself as the first President of the Texas Association of Black City Council Members and served on the Texas Municipal League Board of Directors and Attorney General's Municipal Advisory Task Force; and, WHEREAS, T.J. Patterson has provided leadership and advocacy for Lubbock and the South Plains by serving as Texas Municipal League Region III as Secretary, 2nd Vice President, 1 st Vice President, and President; and, WHEREAS, T.J. Patterson has served on the National League of Cities Energy and Environment Natural Resources Policy Committee, and, WHEREAS, T.J. Patterson has been encouraged by numerous individuals across the state and nation to continue his service to the public in expanded roles; NOW THEREFORE: BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK: THAT we, the collective members of the Lubbock City Council, do hereby pass this Resolution expressing our total support for T.J. PATTERSON to become President -Elect of the Texas Municipal League. Passed by the City Council this 9th day of October , 1997.
