HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution - 2005-R0433 - Confirm And Continue State Of Disaster - 09/21/2005Resolution No. 2005-80433 September 21, 2005 Item No. 1 RESOLUTION WHEREAS, the Mayor of the City of Lubbock has declared a state of disaster for the City of Lubbock by proclamation on the 19tb day of September, 2005 to preserve life and property due to the imminent approach of Hurricane Rita upon the coastal cities of Texas; and WHEREAS, the City Council has determined that the state of disaster still exists; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK: SECTION 1. THAT the state of disaster for the City of Lubbock declared by the Mayor on the 20tb day of September, 2005, is hereby confirmed and continued; and SECTION 2. THAT the Mayor's authorization of expenditures of up to $650,000.00 from the General Fund (to be reimbursed by federal emergency funds) for housing, food, clothing, and other emergency items for care of the victims is confirmed. Passed by the City Council this 21St day of September, AL, MAYOR ATTEST: e� Rebecca Garza, City Secretary APPROVED AS TO CONTENT: Emergency Management Coordinator APPROVED AS TO FORM: C J+r Anita Burgess, City Attorney mUccdocs/Hurricane Rita.res September 20, 2005 PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, Governor Perry has issued an emergency disaster declaration for the State of Texas to free up resources to deal with the existing challenge of providing services to Texans, and possibly victims of Hurricane Katrina recently relocated to coastal cities, who may need to evacuate the coastal regions of Texas to preserve life and property due to the imminent approach of Hurricane Rita; and WHEREAS, the Governor has requested that the City of Lubbock take refugees from the storm to be housed at the Reese Technology Center or other facilities; and WHEREAS, it will be necessary to incur expenses for providing housing, food, clothing and other necessities for the refugees, until these funds can be reimbursed by FEMA; and WHEREAS, the City of Lubbock agrees to assist in relief efforts and take victims of Hurricane Rita; and WHEREAS, the Mayor of the City of Lubbock has determined that extraordinary measures must be taken to prevent or alleviate loss of life and to protect property from the ravages of Hurricane Rita; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED BY THE MAYOR OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK: SECTION 1. THAT a state of disaster is hereby declared for the City of Lubbock, Texas; and SECTION 2. THAT the City of Lubbock's Emergency Management Plan is hereby implemented; and SECTION 3. THAT the state of disaster shall continue until such time as this proclamation is rescinded or continued by consent of the City Council of the City of Lubbock not more than seven (7) days from the date hereof, and SECTION 4. THAT expenditures of up to $650,000.00 from the General Fund (to be reimbursed by federal emergency funds) are authorized for housing, food, clothing, and other emergency items for care of the victims; and SECTION 5. THAT this Proclamation shall take effect immediately upon its issuance and the City Secretary of the City of Lubbock is hereby authorized and directed to distribute this Proclamation to all news media and ensure widespread distribution of this Proclamation to the public.
