An ordinance assessing a Street Tax against certain male in—
habitants of the City of Lubbock, fixing the amount and time and
mode of payment, providing a penalty for refusal to pay same,
Be it ordained by the City Council of the City of Lubbock:
Section 1. That there shall be annually collected from all male
persons, between the ages of twenty and forty—six, the sum of Three
Dollars, for the use of the street fund, payable before the first day
of .Tune of each year.
Section 1. Said tax shall be collected from each and every such
male mentioned in Sectlon 1 hereof, who shall be an inhabitant of this
City for as much as thirty days during the year, provided he shall
not have paid a similar tax elsewhere in this state, and in all pros
ecutions under this ordinance, it shall devolve upon the person mak—
ing such defense to prove the payment of such tax to another munici—
pality for the year upon which the prosecution for failure to pa+y is
based.
Section 3. There shall be such tax collected from each such person
regardless of whether he became an inhabitant of this City before the
first day of June or not, and should he become such inhabitant after
the said first day of June, such payment shall be within ninety days
thereafter.
Section 4. The off ioer of this City charged with the col—
lection of such tax shall issue to each person paying same a receipt
therefor.
Section 5. For a violation of any portion of this Ordinance,
the person convicted shall be fined in any sum not exceeding twenty—
five dollars.
