HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution - 2007-R0511 - Create Lubbock Street Naming Task Force - 10/25/2007Resolution No. 2007-R0511 October 25, 2007 Item No. 6.6 RESOLUTION WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Lubbock desires to establish the Lubbock Street Naming Task Force to review the City's ordinance regarding naming and renaming City streets and facilities; and WHEREAS, the Lubbock Street Naming Task Force shall be appointed and serve as set forth below; and WHEREAS, the goal of the Lubbock Street Naming Task Force is to evaluate the City's ordinance and policies related to the naming and renaming of City streets and facilities, and to advise and make recommendations to the City Council on such matters; and WHEREAS, the creation of the Lubbock Street Naming Task Force is important to ensure consistency and fairness in the consideration of names for all City streets and facilities; NOW THEREFORE: BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK: 1. THAT the Lubbock Street Naming Task Force (the "Task Force") is hereby created by the City Council of the City of Lubbock, which shall perform the following duties: a. The Task Force shall review and make recommendations to the Lubbock City Council regarding the substance, use and application of any and all City ordinances and polices related to the naming and/or renaming of City streets and facilities. b. The Task Force shall consider the implementation of an annual limitation on the number of City streets and/or facilities allowed to be named or renamed and make recommendations to the Lubbock City Council regarding such. 2. THAT the Task Force, to consist of fifteen members, shall be appointed by the Lubbock City Council as follows: a. District 1 representative to the Lubbock City Council shall appoint two (2) members to the Task Force; b. District 2 representative to the Lubbock City Council shall appoint two (2) members to the Task Force; C. District 3 representative to the Lubbock City Council shall appoint two (2) members to the Task Force; d. District 4 representative to the Lubbock City Council shall appoint two (2) members to the Task Force; e. District 5 representative to the Lubbock City Council shall appoint two (2) members to the Task Force; f. District 6 representative to the Lubbock City Council shall appoint two (2) members to the Task Force; and g. The Mayor of the City of Lubbock shall appoint three (3) members to the Task Force, one (1) of which shall serve as chairperson of the Task Force. 3. THAT the Task Force shall meet at times and locations established by a majority of the Task Force, as it deems advisable or advantageous. A simple majority of the Task Force shall constitute a quorum, and shall be required for any action to be taken by the Task Force. All meetings and procedures shall be consistent with the policies of the City of Lubbock concerning Advisory Commissions and Boards. After its members are appointed at the City Council meeting on November 8, 2007, the Task Force shall have its first public meeting no later than the first Saturday in December and shall post that meeting announcement at least five (5) days in advance of the meeting. 4. THAT the Task Force shall conduct a minimum of two (2) public meetings with the express intent of solicitation of input and communications regarding the naming or renaming of City assets. 5. THAT the Task Force shall submit a final report to the City Council of the ity of Lubbock, at such time said recommendations are complete, but in no event to be ter than ninety (90) days after the date hereof, containing recommendations to the City 6. THAT unless extended by the City Council of the City of Lubbock, the Task Force shall be dissolved, without further action of the City Council of the City of Lubbock, upon final submittal of the recommendations, as set forth in paragraph 5, above. 7. THAT the City Council shall maintain a moratorium on the naming or uning of any and all City assets until one hundred twenty (120) days after the date that task force submits its final report. by the City Council this 25th day of October , 2007.
