HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution - 2009-R0268 - Encourages More Energy Efficient And Sustainable Buildings And Facilities, LCU - 07/08/2009Resolution No. 2009-R0268 July 8, 2009 item No. 6.5 RESOLUTION WHEREAS, the cost of energy resources upon which Texas and the United States most heavily depend have increased dramatically and leaders from across the nation have called for increased development of alternative sources of energy; and WHEREAS: Lubbock Christian University, recognizing the need for environmentally friendly building technology, initiated a sweeping green initiative beginning several years ago that is being instituted within many new campus buildings including a welcome center, dormitories, and a recreational facility; and WHEREAS: the resourceful initiatives of Lubbock Christian University play a significant role in the green movement as the institution encourages reductions in water usage and energy consumption; and WHEREAS: Lubbock Christian University is a trailblazer in the local green movement as it was the first university in Lubbock to pursue certification by the United States Green Building Council, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LUBBOCK, S: a) that the City of Lubbock, Texas encourages green building technology throughout the City; b) that the City of Lubbock, Texas supports Lubbock Christian University's initiative to operate their campus facilities in a more efficient and environmentally friendly manner; and c) that the City of Lubbock, Texas encourages the construction of buildings and campus facilities made of energy efficient, sustainable, recycled materials.
