HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution - 2013-R0187 - Renew State Of Disaster - 06/13/2013Resolution No. 2013-RO187 Mune 13, 2013 Item No. 6.4 RENEWAL OF JOINT DECLARATION OF DISASTER WHEREAS, on the 5th day of June 2013, Lubbock County, Texas and the City of Lubbock, Texas suffered widespread damage and loss of property (or there is imminent threat of same) resulting from severe thunderstorms with hail, lightning strikes, localized flooding and microburst straight-line winds in excess of 80 miles per hours, and WHEREAS, Lubbock County and the City of Lubbock continue to experience downed trees, loss of electrical power, structural damage to buildings and facilities, displaced citizens, flooded and damaged roadways and disruption of business activity; and WHEREAS, the County Judge of Lubbock County and the Mayor of the City of Lubbock determined that extraordinary measures must be taken to alleviate the suffering of people and to protect or rehabilitate property, WHEREAS, on the 7'h day of June, 2013, the Lubbock County Judge and the Mayor of the City of Lubbock issued a Joint Declaration of Disaster, pursuant to their authority under §418.108(a) of the Texas Government Code, WHEREAS, the state of disaster declared by the County Judge and Mayor may continue for a period of not more than seven days from the date of the declaration unless continued or renewed by the Commissioners Court of Lubbock County and the City Council of Lubbock, AND WHEREAS, the Commissioners Commissioners Court of Lubbock County and the City Council of Lubbock have determined that it is necessary to renew and continue the state of disaster, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT JOINTLY DECLARED BY THE COMMISSIONERS COURT OF LUBBOCK COUNTY, TEXAS AND THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK, TEXAS: 1. That a local state of disaster is hereby renewed and continued for Lubbock County, Texas and the City of Lubbock, Texas pursuant to §418.108(b) of the Texas Government Code. 2. Pursuant to §418.108(c) of the Government Code, this renewal and continuation of the declaration of a local state of disaster shall be given prompt and general publicity and shall be filed promptly with the Lubbock County Clerk and the Lubbock City Secretary. 4. Pursuant to §418.108(d) of the Government Code, this renewal and continuation of the declaration of a local state of disaster continues activation of the emergency management plan for Lubbock County and the City of Lubbock.
