RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, the City of Lubbock and Lubbock County share several common interests
and goals with respect to law enforcement; and
II WHEREAS, the City Council desires that a thorough, collaborative study and analysis
be undertaken to identify services provided by the law enforcement departments of both City of
Lubbock and Lubbock County that, to the extent possible, might be shared or otherwise
coordinated in the interest of overall efficiency and fiscal economy; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Lubbock desires more specifically to
explore the feasibility of sharing administrative office space between the Lubbock Police
Department and the Lubbock County Sheriff's office, and further the construction or location,
in existing available space, a jail or holding facility for arrestee intake; and
WHEREAS, the City Council desires that a task force be appointed, of appropriate
membership, to discuss and study the matter, and promptly report its findings and
recommendations back to the City Council.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK:
THAT a City of Lubbock -Lubbock County Law Enforcement Facilities Task Force (the
"Task Force") of five (5) members be appointed to study the matters set forth herein. including
the potential for shared services and office space, and a jail or holding facility for the use in
processing arrestees, in addition to other related matters as it deems appropriate.
THAT one (1) member of the Task Force shall be the Lubbock Chief of Police, one (1)
member of the Task Force shall be the Lubbock County Sheriff, and the remaining three (3)
members shall be appointed by the City Council from the residents of the City of Lubbock, at
large.
THAT the Task Force shall report back to the City Council its findings and
recommendations within six (6) months of the date of this Resolution.
