HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution - 2014-R0347 - No Licensing Or Permitting Fees For TTU - 10/09/2014RESOLUTION WHEREAS, the City of Lubbock entered into a Street Use license Agreement with Texas Tech University by Resolution No. 2014-RO319 on September 11, 2014 in connection with certain activities and urban stage event ("Activities") planned by the UrbanTech Project; and WHEREAS, the Activities planned by Texas Tech University, a governmental entity, on Avenue J between Broadway and Main Street from October 25, 2014 to November 8, 2014 are expected to draw large attendance and widespread positive attention to the Lubbock Downtown area, and additionally will infuse much needed vitality and economic stimulus into an underutilized area of the City, and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Lubbock has routinely encouraged innovative attempts to redevelop and revitalize the Lubbock Downtown area, and further desires to promote constructive, positive activities to generate interest therein by visitors and attendees who otherwise likely would select another entertainment venue; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Lubbock hereby finds that it is in the public interest, and to the ultimate benefit of the City of Lubbock, to encourage the Activities scheduled by Texas "tech University, as set forth in Resolution No. 2014- 80319, by mitigating the financial burden of the permit fees charged by the City of Lubbock in connection with the Activities; NOW THEREFORE: BE IT RESOLVED BY `I HE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK: THAT, in light of the foregoing;, no license or permitting; fees shall be imposed on Texas Tech University in connection with the activities contemplated by and in Resolution No. 2014-R031.9, and enumerated in Exhibit C thereto, and to the extent any such fees have been collected, the City Secretary and City Manager shall promptly return them to Texas Tech University, as the City Council affirmatively finds that the Activities are f'or a public purpose, and the City of Lubbock is receiving a public benefit in return; and THAT Texas Tech University is commended by the City Council of the City of Lubbock for planning activities that will encourage economic development, downtown revitalization, and constructively promote interest in goals consistent with, and in furtherance of, the public purposes and priorities expressed by, and to the benefit of, the City of Lubbock.
