HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution - 2014-R0060 - Establish Power Plan Committee - 02/27/2014RESOLUTION WHEREAS, the provision of an efficient, cost-effective and dependable electrical energy source is vital to the citizens of the City of Lubbock; and WHEREAS, the City of Lubbock is in a position to evaluate all potential sources for electrical energy, such as solar, wind, biomass, natural gas and others, including alternative and renewable sources of energy, and to study technological advances in the provision of electrical power; and WHEREAS, the City Council finds that it is in the public interest to formulate a 100 year plan for power, much like the City's 100 year water plan, and that it is proper to develop a comprehensive, strategic plan in regard to future electrical energy sources; NOW THEREFORE: BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK: 1) THAT the City Manager is herein directed to establish the "Power Plan Committee" ("Committee") to evaluate and analyze, in consultation with Black & Veatch and other consultants currently under contract with the City, all feasible and potential sources of electrical power generation for the City of Lubbock for the next 100 years, including alternative and renewable sources. 2) THAT the City Manager, in his discretion, shall appoint the members of the City staff who will serve on the Committee, such Committee to be compromised of at least one representative from the following departments: a) Lubbock Power & Light b) Solid Waste C) Water d) Airport e) Waste Water Operations f) A City Engineer 3) THAT the City Manager, in his discretion, shall appoint any additional staff members to serve on the Committee and shall appoint the Chairman of the Committee. 4) THAT the Committee shall report back to the City Council, in writing, its findings and recommendations no later than ninety (90) days from the date of this resolution.
