HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution - 2008-R0402 - Lubbock Foreign Trade Zone Application - 10/23/2008Resolution No. 2008-RO402 October 23, 2008 Item No. 5.4 RESOLUTION WHEREAS, pursuant to the Foreign Trade Zone Act of 1934, as amended (the Act), 15 CFR Section 400 and Texas Civil Statutes Article 1446.22, the City of Lubbock, as a port of entry was appointed Grantee and established Foreign Trade Zone 260 (FTZ-260), at Lubbock Preston Smith International Airport; and WHEREAS, the City entered into a management agreement in 2005 with Market Lubbock Economic Development Corporation, d/b/a Visit Lubbock (MLI) to hire a Director and operate FTZ-260 on behalf of the City; and WHEREAS, the Act allows for the establishment of sub -zone sites which are ancillary to the general purpose zone and are given FTZ status for the benefit of a particular user that cannot be accommodated in the existing zone space; and WHEREAS, the Director of FTZ-260 has received applications for the establishment of FTZ-260 Distribution Sub -Zones from Venus Decorative Hardware, Inc. and Holiday LiteSource, Inc.; and WHEREAS, the City Council desires to submit the applications to the Foreign Trade -Zones Board in Washington, D.C. for Foreign Trade Zone operating authority with all the benefits related to Foreign Trade Zone operations; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK: THAT the Director of Lubbock Foreign Trade Zone 260 is hereby authorized and directed to sign and submit on behalf of the City of Lubbock the following two applications for Foreign Trade Zone operating authority with all the benefits related to Foreign Trade Zone operations: FTZ-260B — Venus Decorative Hardware, Inc., 8803 Valencia, Lubbock, Texas FTZ-260C — Holiday LiteSource, Inc., 301 SE Loop 289, Lubbock, Texas assed by the City Council this 23rd day of October , 2008. 4 ,thy A�' TOM MARTIN, MAYOR TTEST: Garza, City Secretary APPROVED AS TO CONTENT: Warren Warner, Director-F?2-260 Gary awrence, CEO Market Lubbock Economic Development Corporation d/b/a Market Lubbock, Inc., d/b/a Visit Lubbock APPROVED AS TO FORM: Linda L.
