HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution - 2002-R0501 - Call For A Temporary Joint Committee - Student Community Committee - 11/14/2002Resolution No. 2002-RO501 November 14, 2002 Item No. 45 RESOLUTION WHEREAS, the City Council finds that it is important for the City of Lubbock and Texas Tech University to take actions to foster positive collegiate and community relations; and WHEREAS, the City Council further finds that the creation of a joint committee composed of Lubbock citizens and student members of the Texas Tech Student Government Association to open communications and dialogue in addressing common issues and mutual goals shared by the City and the Student Government Association will benefit both entities; NOW THEREFORE: BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK: SECTION 1. THAT a temporary joint committee to be called the Student - Community Committee is hereby created. SECTION 2. THAT the Committee shall be composed of eight members, with four to be selected by the Student Government Association and four to be selected by the Mayor of the City of Lubbock. The term of office for the Committee's members shall be two years. In addition, a designated representative from the Student Government Association and from the Mayor shall serve as facilitators for meetings and shall mediate any issues that cannot be resolved by Committee members. SECTION 3. THAT the Committee shall meet once a month in locations that alternated between Texas Tech University and the City of Lubbock. The days and times of meetings shall be at the convenience of the Committee. Notice of meetings shall be given in accordance with the Texas Open Meetings Act. SECTION 4. THAT topics for discussion and resolution may be originated by the Student Government Association, the Mayor's office or by committee members.
