RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, the Texas Forest Services has established an Urban Forestry
Partnership Grant Program, the goal of which is to develop long-range urban forestry
programs in communities across Texas; and
WHEREAS, the stated purpose of the program is to support new initiatives, to
expand existing programs, and/or foster activities that would not occur without grant
funds. Types of projects eligible for funding include Program Development, Information
and Education, and Demonstration or Site -Specific Projects; and
WHERERAS, veterans of military service are deserving of honor and recognition;
and
WHEREAS, families of trees grown around the world offer the hope of renewal,
rejuvenation, and a continual living memorial to veterans; and
WHEREAS, the City Council desires to apply grant funds to develop a Veterans
Memorial Grove with the "Trees Across The World" project; NOW THEREFORE:
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK:
THAT the Mayor of the City of Lubbock is hereby authorized and directed to
execute a grant agreement and any associated documents for a Texas Forrest Service
Urban Forestry Partnership Grant to be applied for by the Parks and Recreation
Department, a copy of which shall be spread upon the minutes of the Council and as
spread upon the minutes of this Council shall constitute and be a part of this Resolution
as if fully copied herein in detail.
Passed by the City Council this 11th day of July , 2002.
