WHEREAS, Highway, air, and rail transportation all contribute to a city's
accessibility, commerce, and economic vitality, and possessing a variety of transportation
options is important to our local business climate; and,
WHEREAS, Lubbock continually seeks to expand its transportation options and
improve the transportation infrastructure which is already in place; and
WHEREAS, Amtrak has begun the process of proposing the construction of a
standard train route between Fort Worth, Texas, and Denver, Colorado; and,
WHEREAS, The Texas Association for Rail Passengers and the Lubbock
Chamber of Commerce have expressed strong interest and promoted the Caprock Chief
Route that links Fort Worth and Denver via Lubbock as their choice for the proposed
route; and,
WHEREAS, The Caprock Chief Route will restore Lubbock's passenger rail
service and will contribute to our city's accessibility, commerce, and economic vitality,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF LUBBOCK:
THAT the Mayor and the City Council do hereby support the Lubbock Chamber
of Commerce in encouraging Amtrak to strongly consider providing connecting rail
service between Fort Worth and Denver through the great City of Lubbock, Texas.
