RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, a Park Naming Committee, a sub -committee of the Parks and
Recreation Board, was formed in August 1999 consisting of Phyllis Jones, Chair; Olga
Aguero; Bobbe Crawford; and J.R. Morales; and
WHEREAS, Section 2-259 of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Lubbock
requires the Parks and Recreation Board to submit recommendations to the City Council
with regard to the naming of park facilities; and
WHEREAS, the Parks Naming Committee set the following criteria for the
candidates:
1. The person can be deceased or living.
2. The person will have made a significant contribution to the community (land,
time, money, programs, etc.)
3. The name should have regional or cultural significance.
4. The name should be important to community.
5. The park could be named after the subdivision in which it is located and a lake
could be named after a Park that it is adjacent to; and
WHEREAS, Written nominations were accepted from the public from January 6,
2000 through May 31, 2000; and
WHEREAS, Park Board approval of Park Naming Committee recommendations
was granted on September 26, 2000, which recommendations were presented to Council
on November 7, 2000;
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Lubbock desires to name the
following facilities as set forth below in recognition of the historical significance of this
area and, in the case of persons, to honor them for their contributions to the City of
Lubbock as set forth below; NOW THEREFORE:
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK:
THAT the following park facilities are hereby named as indicated below:
