ORDINANCE NO. 8223 -------
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 10 OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF
LUBBOCK, TEXAS, BY AMENDING THE LANGUAGE OF PORTIONS OF SECTION 10-6 WITH
REGARD TO POLLING PLACES AND PRECINCT BOUNDARIES; PROVIDING FOR A MAP OF THE
VOTING PRECINCTS OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK; PROVIDING THAT ALL PORTIONS OF
SECTION 10-6 NOT AMENDED SHALL REMAIN THE SAME; PROVIDING A SAVINGS CLAUSE AND
PROVIDING FOR PUBLICATION.
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Lubbock deems it to be in the
best interests of the citizens of the City of Lubbock to establish a new
polling place for Voting Precinct No. 10 because of the closing of Carroll
Thompson School; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Lubbock deems it to be in the
best interests of the citizens of the City of Lubbock to amend the boundaries
of Voting Precinct No. 26 to reflect a recently approved annexation; NOW
THEREFORE:
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK:
SECTION 1. THAT the Code of Ordinances of the City of Lubbock BE and
is hereby amended by amending Section 10-6 as to the portions hereinafter set
out:
Voting Precinct No. 10. Beginning at the intersection of Broadway
Street and Avenue H; thence south along Avenue H to the intersection of
19th Street; thence west along 19th Street to the intersection with
Avenue U; thence north along Avenue U to its intersection with Broadway
Street; thence east along Broadway Street to the point of beginning. The
voting place shall be Lubbock High School.
Voting Precinct No. 26. Beginning at a point in the south City
limits 150 feet south of the intersection of Avenue Hand 82nd Street;
thence east along the south City limits to a point 150 feet south and
2,922 feet east of the northwest corner of Section 8, Block E; thence
south 560.15 feet; thence east 533 feet; thence north 560.15 feet; thence
east to the southwest right-of-way of U.S. Highway 84; thence southeast
along U.S. Highway 84 and the south City limits to the southeast corner
of the City limits; thence northeast across U.S. Highway 84 to the tracks
of the A.T. & S.F. Railroad; thence northwest along the tracks of the
A.T. & S.F. Railroad to the intersection of the F.W. & D .. C. Railroad;
thence northwest along the tracks of the F.W. & D.C. Railroad to the
intersection of Avenue H; thence south along Avenue H to the point of
beginning. The voting place shall be Chris Harwell School.
SECTION 2. THAT the Code of Ordinances of the City of Lubbock BE and
is hereby amended by amending the paragraph immediately following the boundary
description of Voting Precinct No. 62 to read as follows:
The voting precincts set out in this Section are hereby delineated
on the map denominated "City of Lubbock Voting Precincts, Effective
September 1, 1981". A copy of said map is attached to and made a part
hereof as though fully copied herein in detail. An original copy of said
map shall be kept in the office of the City Secretary and shall be open
to public inspection, and at each special and general City election, a
true copy of said map shall be furnished by the City Secretary to each of
the presiding judges of each voting precinct for said special or general
election.

SECTION 3. THAT all portions of Section lP-6 of the Code of Ordi-
nances of the City of Lubbock not hereinabove altered shall remain the same as
they are. I
SECTION 4. THAT should any section, paragraph, sentence, clause,
phrase or word of this Ordinance be declared unconstitutional or invalid for
any reason, the remainder of this Ordinance shall pot be affected thereby.
i SECTION 5. THAT the City Secretary is he~eby authorized and directed
to cause publication of the descriptive caption o~ this Ordinance as an
alternative method provided by law.
