ORDINANCE NO. 1034
AN ORDINANCE EXTENDING AVENUE "R" SOUTH, AND BETWEEN BAY~
LOR STREET AND AUBURN STREET .. ,SO AS TO EXTE'ND AND WIDEN AVENUE
"R" BETWEEN BLOCK SIXTY-FIVE (65) AND JBLOCK SIXTY-SIX (66) OF THE
ROBERTS & MCWHORTER ADDITION TO THE CITY OF LUBBOCK; AUTHORIZ-
ING THE CITY ENGINEER TO ACQUIRE THE WEST TWENTY -FIVE {Z5') FEET
OF BLOCK SI.XTY-FIVE-(65) IN SAID ADDITION FOR STREET PURPOSES,-AND
DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.
WHEREAS, the Planning Commission bas heretofore approved a Plat of an
Addition known as the "San Jose Addition, n and located on Blocks Sixty-Six
(66) and Sixty-Seven {67) of the Roberts & McWhorter Addition to the City of
Lubbock, and on the East side of Block Sixty-Six (66) there is a passageway or
street of inadequate width, and the City Commission finds that public necessity
and convenience requires the widening and extension of Avenue "R, 11 between
Baylor Street and Auburn Street,t,so as to furnish a street of fifty (SOt) feet in
~width to permit the necessary extension of all utilities required in the area in-
duding paving, and to provide adequate access to the area, THEREFORE:

, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK:
SECTION 1. THAT, public necessity and convenience requires the exten-
sion of Avenue "R11 South from Baylor Street to Auburn Street, and that the East
passageway be widened so as to provide a fifty (50') foot street between said
points, and tbB.t the center line of Avenue "R" be the same as the property line
separating Blocks Sixty-Five (65) and Sixty-Six (66) in the Roberts & McWhorter
Addition.
SECTION l. THAT, the City Engineer be and he is hereby authorized and
directed to acquire the West Twenty-Five (Z51) Feet of Block Sixty-Five (65) ~ of the Roberts & McWhorter Addition, between Baylor Street and Auburn Street, ~ for the purposes of making Avenue "R" between said points a street fifty {50') I feet::~:~ 3. 'rRA'l', due to the fact that the "San Jose" Project bas been
~ completed and the area covered by it is substantially occupied, and the people
~ living therein and in the area do not have adequate access to and from the area
and to and from Baylor Street to Au:burn Street, or adequate streets for the
transportation of firefighting equipment, creates an emergency requiring that
all rules providing for the reading of Ordinances at more than one (1) meeting
be suspended, and the same are hereby suspended, and this Ordinance shall be-
come effective this Z8th day of September, 1950.
AND IT IS SO ORDERED.

passed by an affirmative vote of the City Commission this 28th day of September,
1950.
