HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinance - 7948-1979 - Altering Prima Facie Speed Limits On Certain Portions Of North Quirt Ave; Signs - 10/25/1979LGB:pc ORDINANCE NO. -----7948 AN ORDINANCE ALTERING THE PRIMA FACIE SPEED LIMITS ON CERTAIN PORTIONS OF NORTH QUIRT AVENUE, AS HEREINAFTER MORE PARTICULARY DESCRIBED Iij THE BODY OF THIS ORDINANCE; DIRECTING PLACEMENT OF SIGNS WITH RESPECT THERETO; REPEALING CONFLICTING ORDINANCES TO THE EXTENT OF SUCH CONFLICT; APPLICATION OF THIS ORDINANCE ONLY TO STREETS OR HIGHWAYS NAMED HEREIN; PROVIDING THIS ORDINANCE SHALL BE CUMULATIVE; PROVIDING A PENALTY AS PROVIDED IN SECTION 1-5 OF THE CITY CODE; PROVIDING A SAVINGS CLAUSE AND PROVIDING FOR PUBLICATION. WHEREAS, the governing body of the City of Lubbock, upon the basis of an engineering and traffic investigation finds it necessary to alter prima facie speed limits as established by Article 6701d, Vernon's Annotated Civil Statutes, within the areas and the locations named and designated in the body of this Ordinance, all within the corporate limits of the City of Lubbock: NOW THEREFORE: BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK: SECTION 1. THAT the prima facie speed limits on the following streets and highways in the urban district set forth below are hereby altered and changed as hereinafter set forth upon the following described portions of streets and/or highways located within the City of Lubbock, Lubbock County, Texas, to-wit: A 40 MPH speed limit on both sides of North Quirt Avenue between Regis Street (F.M.2641) and Bluefield Road. A 50 MPH speed limit for the Southbound traffic on North Quirt Avenue beginning at Regis Street (F.M.2641) and extending South to Ursuline Avenue. A 50 MPH speed limit for Northbound traffic on North Quirt Avenue beginning at Ursuline Avenue and extending North to a point 1,000 feet South of Regis Street (F.M.2641). A 45 MPH speed limit for Northbound traffic on North Quirt Avenue beginning at a point 1,000 ft. South of Regis Street (F.M.2641) and extending North to Regis Street (F.M,2641). SECTION 2. THAT all Ordinances or parts of Ordinances conflicting with any of the provisions hereof are hereby repealed insofar as such'•conflict exists. SECTION 3. THAT all highways or streets not specifically set forth .in the preceeding sections hereof shall not be affected by the provisions hereof, and this Ordianance shall be cumulative of all other prima facie speed limit Ordinances except those with which is specifically conflicts. SECTION 4. THE City Manager is hereby authorized and directed to cause the placing and maintenance of such traffic control signals and/or devices and/or signs as shall be necessary to apprise the public of the zones as hereinabove set forth. :• I .. -· .... -' LGB:pc ORDINANCE NO. 7948 SECTION 5. TRAT violation of any provisions of this Ordinance shall be deemed a misdemeanor punishable by a fine not to exceed two hundred dollars as provided in Section 1-5 of the City Code. SECTION 6. THAT should any paragraph, sentence, clause, phrase or word of this Ordinance be declared unconstitutional or invalid for any reasons, the remainder of this Ordinance shall not be affected thereby. SECTION 7. TRAT the City Secretary is hereby authorized to cause publication of the descriptive caption of this Ordinance as an alternative method provided by law. AND IT IS SO ORDERED.
