AN ORDINANCE ALTERING THE PRIMA FACIE SPEED LIMITS ON
CERTAIN PORTIONS OF BROWNFIELD HIGHWAY (ROAD) (U.S. 62 AND 82)
ROM 19TH STREET TO SLIDE ROAD IN THE CITY OF LUBBOCK, LUBBO
COUNTY, TEXAS, AS HEREINAFTER MORE PARTICULARLY DESCRIBED
N THE BODY OF THIS ORDINANCE; DIRECTING PLACEMENT OF SIGNS
ITH RESPECT THERETO; REPEALING CONFLICTING ORDINANCES TO
HE EXTENT OF SUCH CONFLICT; APPLICATION OF THIS ORDINANCE
NLY TO STREETS OR HIGHWAYS NAMED HEREIN; PROVID1NG THIS
RDINANCE SHALL BE CUMULATIVE; PROVIDING A SAVINGS CLAUSE
OR PUBLICATION HEREOF, AND A PENALTY CLAUSE.
WHEREAS, the governing body of the City of Lubbock, upon the basis of
1'enginaering and traffic investigation finds it necessary to alter prima facie
peed limits established by Article 6701d, Section 166(a) 1, Vernon's Texas
ivil Statutes as amended Acts 1971, 62nd Legislature, page 708, Chapter 73,
ithin the area and at the location named and designated in the body of this
rdinance, all within the corporate limits of the City of Lubbock: NOW
HEREFORE:
E IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK:
SECTION 1. THAT prima facie speed limits on the following streets
d highways in the urban district set forth below is hereby altered and change
s hereinafter set forth upon the following described portions of streets and/o
ighways located within the City of Lubbock, Lubbock County, Texas, to-wit:
BROWNFIELD HIGHWAY (U.S. 62 and 82) FROM 19TH
STREET TO SLIDE ROAD.
Southwesterly bound traffic
A 45 MPH speed zone beginning at 19th Street (S. H. 116)
and extending Southwest a distance of O. 500 mile.
A 50 MPH speed zone beginning at a point O. 500 mile
Southwest oft.19th S:tree't (S. H. 116) and extending
Southwest a distance of O. 800 mile.
A 45 MPH speed zone beginning at a pomt at. 300 miles
Southwest from 19th Street (S. H. 116) and extending
Southwest a di stance of O. 320 mile to Slide Road.
Northeasterly bound traffic

A 40 MPH speed zone beginning at Slide Road
and extending Northeasterly a distance of 0. 300
mile.
A 45 MPH speed zone beginning at a point 0. 300
mile Northeasterly from Slide Road and extending
Northeasterly a distance of O. 200 miles.
A 50 MPH speed zone beginning at a point 0. 500
mile Northeasterly from Slide Road and extending
Northeasterly a distance of 0. 600 mile.·
A 45 MPH speed zone beginning at a point 1.100
miles Northeasterly from Slide Road and extending
Northeasterly a distance of 0. 200.
A 40 MPH speed zone beginning at a point 1. 300
miles Northeasterly from Slide Road and extending
Northeasterly a distance of O. 320 mile to the inter-
section of 19th Street (S. H. 116).
SECTION 2. THAT all Ordinances or parts of Ordinances conflicting
With any of the provisions hereof are hereby repealed insofar as such conflict
exists.
SECTION 3. THAT all highways or streets not specifically set forth in
h e preceeding sections hereof shall not be affected by the provisions hereof,
and this Ordinance shall be cumulative of all other prima facie speed limit
Jrdinances except those with which it specifically conflicts.
SECTION 4. THAT the City Manager is hereby authorized and directec
o cause the placing and maintenance of such traffic signs as shall be necessar:'
o apprise the public of the speed zones as hereinabove set forth.
SECTION 5. THAT should any section, paragraph, sentence, clause,
l:>hrase or word of this Ordinance be declared unconstitutional or invalid for an. r
"'eason, the remainder of this Ordinance shall not be affected thereby.
SECTION 6. THAT any person, firm or corporation violating the prim t
~acie speed limit established by this Ordinance shall, upon conviction, be fined
any sum not to exceed TWO HUNDRED ($200. 00) DOLLARS.

SECTION 7. THAT the City Secretary is authorized and directed to
cause the publication of the descriptive caption of this Ordinance together wi
the penalty provision as an alternative method of publication as provided by
law.
AND IT IS SO-ORDERED.
