AN ORDINANCE CALLING FOR THE CLOSING OF THE RAILROAD
CROSSING LOCATED IN AVENUE M AT 3Rn STREET (DOT NO. 014933U),
RAILROAD MILEPOST 673 .X IN THE CITY OF LUBBOCK, TEXAS.
WHEREAS, the Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railway Company
I (hereinafter called Railroad) and the City of Lubbock, Texas (hereinafter called City)
joined together to consolidate redundant and unnecessary street/railroad crossings; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City met in regular session on February 19,

2004, and there discussed and approved the railroad crossing closure at Avenue M in
I the city limits of Lubbock, Texas; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK:
SECTION L THAT the Avenue M (DOT No. 014933U) crossing be
permanently closed and vacated to vehicular traffic at the time the City installs the
permanent barricades or other appropriate end-of-road treatment at a distance of 50 feet
from the centerline of the nearest Track (or as close to 50 feet as possible) on the
roadway approaches prior to the Railroad removing the crossing surfaces.
SECTION 2. THAT in exchange for the closure of the Avenue M crossing, the
1 Railroad will renew the crossing surfaces on the five tracks at A venue P (north of 3rd
1 Street) DOT No. 014932M with concrete panels as detailed in the closure agreement.
The City and Railroad will also enter into a separate cost-share agreement to renew the
crossing surfaces on Cornell Street at North Avenue Q, rt Street West of Avenue K,
I· and Avenue K north of 151 Street. I
SECTION 3. THAT the Avenue M crossing shall remain physically open for
rerouted vehicular traffic during the temporary closure of Avenue P that is required
from ·the crossing surface renewal work by the Railroad and until such time as the
Avenue P crossing has been constructed and opened to vehicular traffic.
AND IT IS SO ORDERED.
