HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinance - 2002-O0136 - City Of Lubbock Establishing That City Limits Population May Be Altered By TXDOT - 12/19/2002First Reading December 19~ 2002 Item No. 13 Second Reading January 9 ~ 2003 Item No. 10 ORDINANCE NO. 2002-o0136 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK, TEXAS, ESTABLISHING THE POPULATION OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK BY ORDINANCE SO THAT CITY LIMITS POPULATION MAY BE ALTERED ON STATE HIGHWAYS BY THE TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION TO REFLECT THE CURRENT POPULATION FIGURE FOR THE CITY OF LUBBOCK; PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE; PROVIDING A SAVINGS CLAUSE; AND PROVIDING FOR PUBLICATION. WHEREAS, the population of the City of Lubbock has increased since the 2000 Federal Census; and WHEREAS, the Texas Department of Transportation is empowered to display estimate population figures on state highway signs based on a city ordinance establishing such population; and WHEREAS, the most recent official estimate of the City ofLubbock's population is the estimate of201,855 as of January 1, 2002, according to the Texas State Data Center; NOW THEREFORE: BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK: SECTION 1. THAT the estimated 2002 population of the City of Lubbock is 201 ,85 5 as established by the Texas State Data Center as of January 1, 2002, and this figure may be used by the Texas Department of Transportation to indicate current population of the City of Lubbock on all applicable state highway signage. Said figure may be used until such time as there is a new official Federal Census or a new population ordinance is passed by the City Council. All costs associated with changing such signs shall be paid by the City of Lubbock. SECTION 2. THAT this Ordinance shall be effective following final passage by the City Council of the City Lubbock. SECTION 3. THAT should any paragraph, section, sentence, phrase, clause or word of this Ordinance be declared unconstitutional or invalid for any reason, the remainder of this Ordinance shall not be affected thereby. SECTION 4. THAT the City Secretary is hereby authorized and directed to cause publication of the descriptive caption of this Ordinance as an alternative method of publication as provided by law. AND IT IS SO ORDERED.
