ORDINANCE NO. 2008-o0097
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK, TEXAS,
ESTABLISHING THE POPULATION OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK BY
ORDINANCE SO THAT CITY LIMITS SIGNAGE MAY BE ALTERED ON
STATE HIGHWAYS BY THE TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION
TO REFLECT THE CURRENT POPULATION FIGURE FOR THE CITY OF
LUBBOCK; PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE; PROVIDING A SAVINGS
CLAUSE; AND PROVIDING FOR PUBLICATION.
WHEREAS, the population estimate of the City of Lubbock has increased
since January 1, 2002, when it was last established by Ordinance No. 2002-00 I 36 of
the City of Lubbock; and
WHEREAS, the Texas Department of Transportation is empowered to display
estimated population figures on state highway signs based on city ordinances
establishing such population; and
WHEREAS, the most recent official estimate of the City of Lubbock's
population is 218,327, according to Texas State Data Center figures released October
20, 2008; NOW THEREFORE:
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK:
SECTION 1. THAT the most recent estimated population of the City of
Lubbock is 218,327, according to Texas State Data Center estimates released for use
on October 20, 2008, and this figure may be used by the Texas Department of
Transportation to indicate current population of the City of Lubbock on all applicable
state highway signage. Said figure may be used until such time as there is a new
official Federal Census or a new estimated population ordinance is passed by the City
Council. All costs associated with changing such signs may be paid by the City of
Lubbock.
SECTION 2. THAT this Ordinance shall be effective following final passage
by the City Council of the City of Lubbock.
SECTION 3. THAT should any paragraph, section. sentence. phrase, clause
or word of this Ordinance be declared unconstitutional or invalid for any reason. the
remainder of this Ordinance shall not be effected thereby.
SECTION 4. THAT the City Secretary is hereby authorized and directed to
cause publication of the descriptive caption of this Ordinance as an alternative
method of publication as provided by law.
