ORDINANCE NO. 8953
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE LUBBOCK CITY CODE TO ADD A NEW SUBSECTION
19-1(8) SO AS TO MAKE IT UNLAWFUL TO OPERATE OR DRIVE ANY VEHICLE WITHIN
ANY CITY PARK AT A SPEED GREATER THAN TWENTY (20) MILES PER HOUR UPON ANY
PARK ROAD; PRESCRIBING A PENALTY; PROVIDING FOR PUBLICATION HEREOF; SETTING
FORTH AN EFFECTIVE DATE OF THIS ORDINANCE; AND AUTHORIZING THE PLACING OF
SPEED LIMIT SIGNS.
WHEREAS, the governing body of the City of Lubbock as authorized by
Article 6701D, §169(B), V.A.C.S., finds that after an engineering and
traffic investigation that the prima facie speed limits on certain highways
are different from what is reasonable and safe on the roads in City parks
in the City of Lubbock and should be altered as hereinafter set forth; NOW
THEREFORE:
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK:
SECTION 1. THAT the prima facie speed limit established by·.:Article
6701D, §166(A)(1), V.A.C.S., is hereby altered with respect to park roads
within the C!ty of Lubbock, making it unlawful to operate or drive any
vehicle within any City park at a speed greater than twenty (20) miles per
hour upon any park road, and to accomplish such purposes, the Code of
Ordinances of the City of Lubbock is hereby amended by adding a new
subsection thereto to be designated Subsection 19-1(8) which shall read as
follows:
"Sec. 19-1(8)
To operate or drive any vehicle within any City park at a speed
greater than twenty (20) miles per hour upon any park road.11
SECTION 2. THAT any person, firm, or corporation violating the prima
facie speed limit established by this Ordinance shall upon conviction be
fined any sum not to exceed TWO HUNDRED DOLLARS ($200.00).
SECTION 3. THAT the City Secretary is authorized and directed to
cause the publication of the descriptive caption of this Ordinance together
with the penalty as an alternative method of publication as provided by
law.
SECTION 4. THAT this Ordinance shall become effective ten (10) days
after the date of its last publication.

SECTION 5. THAT the City Manager or hie designee is authorized and
directed to cause the placing of signs so as to clearly define the limits
of the prima facie areas set out in this Ordinance.
