AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION llA-12 OF THE CODE OF ORDI-
NANCES., CITY OF LUBBOCK• TEXAS• THE SAME APPEARING IN VOLUME
II OF SAID CODE AND WITHIN THE CHAPTER DESIGNATED 11ELECTRICAL
CODE11a SO AS TO REMOVE THE PROVISIONS OF SAID SECTION WIDCH PRO-
HIBITS MEMBERS OF THE BOARD OF ELECTRICAL EXAMINERS FROM
SUCCEEDING THEMSEL YES IN OFFICE AFTER THE TERM HAS.EXPIRED;
RATIFYING AND CONFIRMING THE TERMS OF THE CURRENT MEMBERS
OF SAID BOARD OF ELECTRICAL EXAMINERS; DECLARING AN EMERGENCY
AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE FOR TIDS ORDINANCE.
WHEREAS. the City Commission finds that the amendment of Section lla-12
of the Lubbock City Code~ being a part of the Electrical Code thereof• to read
hereafter as hereinafter more fully described would be i n the best interests of the
citizens of the City of Lubbock; anda whereas the City Commission finds that this
ordinance deals with the daily operation of city departments in the public interest
creates an emergency; NOW8 THEREFORE6
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COMMissrON OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK:
SECTION 1. THAT Section llA-12 of the Code of Ordinances, City of Lubbo k
Texas, the same being contained in Volume n of said code. in that part thereof de
aignated as the 11Electrical Code11
1 be, and the same is hereby amended to read
hereafter in full as follows, to-wit:
Sec. llA-12. Same--Composition; appoint~ent;terms.
The board of electrical examiners shall consist of ten members.
The following persons shall serve as ex officio members of the board
during the term.s of their respective offices• but they shall not be en-
titled to a vote: The city electrical inspector. the superintendent of
municipal power and light~ or his assistant, and the division superin-
tendent a(.the Southwestern Public Service Company of the division in
which the city is located, or his assistant, whose appointmmt has been
approved by such company. The remaining seven members shall be
appointed by the city commissi on, and they shall indude two licensed
and active master electricians. or one licensed and active master elec-
trician and one licensed and active joum.eyman electrician; and three
persons, not electricians and not actively engaged in the trade as such.
who shall be familiar with building or electrical construction; and two
other suitable persons. These seven members shall hold their office
for a term of three years or until their successors are appointed, ex-
cept that the members first appointed shall hold their o1fices for the
terms ending January lt 1956• January 1~ 1957~ and Janua:ty lJ 1958•
respectively, the term of each to be determined by lot1 except that
the master electrician and journeyman electlician shall not retire the
same year; and their successors shall hold office for three years or
until their successors are appointed.
SECTION 2. This ordinance shall never in any manner be so construed as
terminating or placing any further limitations on the terms of the current mem-
bers of the Board of Electrical Examiners. and the appointment of the current
members of said Board are hereby ratified and confirmed for each of said mem-
bers for the terms of office ilidicated in their last official appointments.
SECTION 3. The rule r~quiring an ordinance to be read on two separate
readings before final passage is hereby suspended• and this ordinance is declared
to be an emergency measure for the reasons set forth in the preamble hereof to
take effect immediately after its passage.
