II OF SAID CODE OF ORDI- Q b r j lrNANCES* ALLOWING BUILDINGS OF TYPE IV CONSTRUCTION TO BE EREC- / Ll f t~h> ~TED OR CONSTRUCTED IN FIRE ZONE NO• Z UNDER CONDITIONS SPECIFIED; 1-Jf ... t ( AUTHORIZING SPECIFIED TYPE V BUILDINGS TO HAVE EXTERIOR WALL STUD SPACINGS OF THE DIMENSIONS HEREINBELOW MORE PARTICULARLY 7-;_~/o \ DEFINED; PROVIDING A PENALTY; PROVIDING A SEVERABILITY CLAUSE; DIRECTING PUBLICATION OF TinS ORDINANCE AND PROVIDING AN EFFEC- TIVE DATE.; WHEREAS• the City Commi asion finds that the hereinafter prescribed revi- sions to the Building Code are necessary and essential to the public safety and in the interests of the citizens of the City of Lubbock; NOW THEREFORE• BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COM:MISSION OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK: SECTION 1. THAT paragraph (b) of Sec. 1603, of the Building Code con- tained in the Code of Ordinances of the City of Lubbock. Texas. which now reads as follows: 11(b) Type IV. No building Type IV Construction having an area greater than one thousand square feet (1000 sq. ft.) shall be erected or constructed in Fire Zone No. 2. BE• and the same is hereby amended to read hereafter in full as follows, to-wit: 11(b) Type IV. Where exterior walls are not less than 10 feet from adjacent property lines~ buildings of Type IV construction having anarea not exceeding two thousand five hWldred square feet (ZSOO sq. ft.} tnay be erected or constructed in Fire Zone No. 2. 11 SECTION 2. THAT the first paragraph of Sec. Z205• of the Building Code contained in the Code of Ordinances of the City of Lubbock. T exa.s, which now reads as follows: 11Exterior walls of all Type V buildings having at.l{lao~-a;!rea..:o£ four hundred square feet or more shall be constructed with studding not less than .two inches by four inches spaced not more than twenty-four inches on centers, or such walls may be constructed of not less than four inch by four inch posts spaced not no re than five feet on centers or of larger mem- bers designed as specified in chapter 2.5,. or may be of post and beam framing with plank sheathing not less than one and one- half inches thick or may be of laminated construction not less than four inches nominal in thickness~the structural assembly properly designed to support all loads. 11 \ BE, and the same is hereby amended to read hereafter in full as follows., to-wit: "Exterior walls of all Type V buildings having a floor area of four hundred square feet or more shall be constructed with studding not less than two inches by four inches spaced not more than sixteen inches on centers; provided" however, that stud spacing on exterior walls may be twenty-four inches on centers where any of the following sheathing requirements are me~ · A. B. c. 3/811 exterior grade plywood may be used in 4':c8 1 sheets with no wall bracing required. 6d common nails shall be placed 611 apart around the perimeter and 12.11 apart in the field. 3/411 thick boards of 6" 8 11 1011 and 12.11 widths may II .. ~ be used either horizontally or diagona11y. If used diagonally no wall bracing will be required. Square edged or tongue and Grove boards are equally accep- table. Any person violating any provision of this Oniinance shall upon con~d.ction be fined in any sum.not exceeding $200. 00. SECTION 4. Should any Section• paragraph,· sentence,. clause. phrase or word of this ordinance be declared unconstitutional or invalid for any reason., the remainder of this Ordinance shall nQt be affected thereby.' SECTION 5. The City Secretary shall cause the publication of this Ordinance once aweek for two consecutive weeks in a newspaper regularly published in the City of Lubbock.
