WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Lubbock deems it to be in
the best interest of the citizens of the City of Lubbock to change the
polling place for Voting Precinct No. 55 fran Calvary Baptist Church to
Preston Smith Elementary School1 and
WHEREAS, the City Council deems it to be in the best interest of
the citizens of the City of LUbbock to correct the boundary description
of Precinct No. 1, which bas been found to contain two incorrect street
names and to use a superseded city limits line; and
WBERF.AS, the City Council deems it to be in the best interest of
the citizens of the City of Lubbock to alter the boundaries of Precinct
No. 63 to include the recent Westfork mmexation1 and
WHEREAS, Bouse Bill No. 612, 70th Legislature, requires that all
changes to election district boundaries be completed JWre than five (5)
mnths prior to an election to be effective; and
WBEREAS, the next regular City general election is required to be
held May 7, 1988, which requires any such changes to be completed prior
to January 7, 19887 and
WBERF.AS, the City Council of the City of Lubbock deems it to be a
matter of grave public necessity that the otherwise eligible citizens of
newly annexed areas be allowed to vote in the regular City general
election, which creates an emergency requiring that this ordinance be
passed on one reading1 Rlf THEREFORE:
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY eot:JN:IL OF THE CITY OF LUBB)CK1
SECTION 1. 'fHAT the Code of Ordinances of the City of Lubbock,
Texas, BE and is hereby amended by altering the polling place recited in
Section 8-4 for City Voting Precinct No. 55 to read as follows:
Voting Precinct No, 55. The voting place shall be Preston Snith
Elementary School.
SE.Cl'ION 2. THAT the Code of Ordinances of the City of Lubbock,
Texas, BE and is hereby anended by replacing the boundary description
recited in Section 8-4 for Voting Precinct No. l with the following
boundary descriptions
Voting Precinct No. 1. Beginning at the intersection of North
University Avenue with the north city limits1 thence south along North
university Avenue to its intersection with Cornell street, thence west
along Cornell street to its intersection with North Indiana Avenue;
thence north along North Indiana Avenue to its intersection with Erskine
street, thence west along Erskine street to its intersection with North
Quaker Avenue, thence north along North ()laker Avenue to its intersection
with Ursuline Street, thence east along Ursuline street to its
intersection with North Indiana Avenue, thence north along North Indiana
Avenue to its intersection with Drake street, thence west along Drake
street 150 feet to a point1 thence north along a line 150 feet west of
North Indiana Avenue, the east section line of Section 13, Block A and
Section 14, Block JS of Lubbock County, Texas, to the north city limits,
150 feet north of Regis street; thence east along the north city limits,
150 feet north of Regis street, to the point of beginning. The voting
place shall be Wolfforth school.
SE.Cl'ION 3. THAT the Code of Ordinances of the City of Lubbock,
Texas, BE and is hereby amanded by altering the boundary description
recited in Section 8-4 for City Voting Precinct No. 63s
Voting Precinct No, 63. Beginning at the intersection of North
Indiana Avenue and Ursuline street; thence west along Ursuline Street
6,671 feet to a point; thence north 992 feet to a point1 thence northeast
along the city limits line 500 feet to its intersection with the Clovis
Bighway1 thence north 580 feet along the west city limits to its
intersection with Drake street1 thence east along Drake Street to its
intersection with the west right-of-way line of North Quaker Avenue,
thence north along the west right-of-way line of North Quaker Avenue
530.5 feet to a point; thence east along the north city limits 1194.6
feet to a point, thence north along west city limits a distance of 250
feet to a point; thence east along the north city limits 3982.16 feet to
a point; thence south along a line 150 west of North Indiana Avenue, the
east section line of Section 13, Block A, Lubbock County, Texas, to the
intersection of Drake Avenue, thence east along Drake Avenue to its
intersection with North Indiana Avenue, thence south along North Indiana
Avenue, the east section line of Section 13, Block A, Lubbock County,
Texas, to the point of beginning. The voting place shall be as is
hereafter designated by election order.
SE.Cl'ION 4. THAT the Code of Ordinances of the City of Lubbock,
Texas, BE and is hereby amended by deleting paragraph 8-4(c) and
substituting therefor the followings
(c) The voting precincts and voting districts set out in this
section are hereby delineated on the map denominated •city of
Lubbock Voting Precincts/Districts, Effective January 1,
:t:f 8fl -aa,:/Official Map.• A copy of said map is attached to and made a
pa.rt of this Ordinance as if fully copied herein in detail. A copy

of the original of such map shall be kept in the office of the City
Secretary and shall be available for I,Ublic inspection, and at each
special and general city election, a true copy of said map shall be
furnished by the City Secretary to each of the presiding judges of
the voting precincts for such special or general city election.
SEC.rION s. THAT all portions of Chapter 8 of the Code of
Ordinances of the City of Lubbock not hereinabove altered shall remain as
they are.
SEC.rION 6. THAT should any section, paragraph, sentence, clause,
phrase or word of this Ordinance be declared unconstitutional or invalid
for any reason, the remainder of this Ordinance shall not be affected
thereby.
SEC.rION 7. '1'BAT passage of this Ordinance is a matter of grave
I,Ublic necessity due to changes in State election laws requiring passage
as an emergency measure to provide for the i.mnediate preservation of the
public peace, property, health and safety.
SEC.rION 8. THAT the City Secretary of the City of Lubbock is
hereby authorized and directed to cause publication of the descriptive
caption of this Ordinance as an alternative method of publication
provided by law.
SEC.rION 9. THAT this Ordinance shall be effective fran and after
January 1, 1988.
