;AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SEC. 2-84 OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF
LUBBOCK, TEXAS, BY AMENDING THE LANGUAGE OF SUBSECTIONS (1) AND (3) OF SAID
SECTION; PROVIDING A SAVINGS CLAUSE AND PROVIDING FOR PUBLICATION.
WHEREAS, the City Council has determined that it would be in the best
interest of the citizens of the City of Lubbock to amend Subsections (1) and
(3) of Sec. 2-84 of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Lubbock to make it
absolutely clear that all manner and manifestation of discriminatory practices
on the basis of age or handicap will be discouraged in the same manner and to
the same extent that discriminatory practices based on race, color, creed,
religion, national origin or ancestry are discouraged; NOW THEREFORE:
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK:
SECTION 1. THAT Sec. 2-84 of the Code of Ordinances of the City of
Lubbock BE and is hereby amended to read as follows at Subsections (1) and
(3):
(1) To help make it possible for each citizen, regardless
of race, handicap, age, color, creed, religion,
national origin or ancestry to develop his or her
talents and abilities without limitation.
(3) To discourage and seek to prevent discriminatory
practices against any individual because of race,
handicap, age, color, creed, religion, national
origin or ancestry and cultural background.

SECTION 2: THAT should any section, paragraph, sentence, clause,
phrase or word of this Ordinance be declared unconstitutional or invalid for
any reason, the remainder of this Ordinance shall not be affected thereby.
SECTION 3. THAT the City Secretary is hereby authorized to cause
publication of the descriptive caption of this Ordinance as an alternative
method as provided for by law.
