VERNON'S ANN.CIV.ST. ART. 1200gg; PROVIDING FOR OPERATION OF SAID MUNICIPAL COURTS; PROVIDING FOR SUMMONING AND IMPANELING OF JURY PANELS AND PAYMENT OF JURORS; PROVIDING A SAVINGS CLAUSE; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE FOR THIS ORDINANCE. WHEREAS, the City Council has determined that it would be in the best interest of the administration of justice and general welfare of the citizens of Lubbock to provide Municipal Courts of Record; and WHEREAS, the Legislature of the State of Texas has passed legislation enabling the City of Lubbock to create Municipal Courts of Record; NOW THEREFORE: BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK: SECTION 1. THAT Chapter 9 of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Lubbock BE and is hereby amended by deleting the existing contents thereof and substituting therefor the following: CHAPTER 9 MUNICIPAL COURTS OF RECORD Sec. 9-1. Municipal Courts of Record Established. The City of Lubbock Municipal Courts are hereby established as Municipal Courts of Record in accordance with Vernon's Ann.Civ.St. art. 1200gg. > Sec. 9-2. Operation and Procedure of Municipal Courts of Record. The operation and procedure of Municipal Courts of Record shall be as provided for by Vernon's Ann.Civ.St.,art. 1200gg, as amended. Sec. 9-3. Summoning, Impaneling and Payment of Jurors. Upon delivery of jury lists drawn for the Municipal Courts of Record to the Clerk of the Municipal Courts of Record, such jurors shall be summoned, impaneled and paid in accordance with procedures established by the Presiding Judge of the Municipal Courts of Record. SECTION 2. THAT should any section, paragraph, sentence, clause, phrase or word of this ordinance be declared unconstitutional or invalid for any reason, the remainder of this ordinance shall not be affected thereby. SECTION 3. THAT this ordinance shall take effect and be implemented upon .. the first day following its passage upon final reading. AND IT IS SO ORDERED.
