HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinance - 9232-1988 - Amending Code Ordinance Pay Certain Members Police Dept. - 10/13/1988II DGV:dw First :Reading October 13, 1988 Item #15 Second Reading October 27, 1988 Item #7 ORO I NANCE NO. ___;;9..:.23;:;;.::2;......._ __ _ AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK, TEXAS, BY ADDING THERETO PROVISIONS PERTAINING TO ASSIGNMENT PAY FOR CERTAIN MEMBERS OF THE POLICE DEPARTMENT; PROVIDING A SAVINGS CLAUSE; AND PROVIDING FOR PUBLICATION. WHEREAS, Section 143.042 of the Local Government Code provides that a 1 municipality may by Ordinance provide for assignment pay for certain civil service employees who are performing specialized functions; and WHEREAS, members of the Lubbock Police Department serving as Field Training Officers are required to perform extra duties in connection with the training of new police officers; and WHEREAS, such extra duties include additional training and additional paperwork in connection with such field training of new police officers; and WHEREAS, it is of great importance to provide the best possible training for new City of Lubbock Police Officers; NOW THEREFORE: BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK: SECTION 1. THAT the Code of Ordinances of the City of Lubbock, Texas, BE and is hereby amended by adding thereto the following new sections to Article IV of Chapter 7, which shall read as follows: Sec. 7-67. Police Assignment Pay. The City Council of the City of Lubbock hereby authorizes assignment pay in addition to the regular pay received by Civil Service members of the Lubbock Police Department who perform the following specialized functions: a) Field Training Officer. Sec. 7-68. Amount of Police Assignment Pay. Assignment pay for eligible Civil Service members of the Lubbock Police Department shall be such rate as is established by the City of Lubbock Budget. SECTION 2. THAT should any paragraph, sentence, clause, phrase or word of this Ordinance be declared unconstitutional or invalid for any reason, the remainder of this Ordinance shall not be affected thereby. SECTION 3. THAT the City Secretary is hereby authorized and directed to cause publication of the descriptive caption of this Ordinance as an alternative method provided by law. AND IT IS SO ORDERED.
