ORDINANCE NO. 6694 -------
AN ORDINANCE ALTERING THE PRIMA FACIE SPEED TO 60 MPH
ON CERTAIN PORTIONS OF U.S. 87 IN THE CITY OF LUBBOCK AS HEREIN-
AFTER MORE PARTICULARLY DESCRIBED IN THE BODY OF THIS ORDINANC
DIRECTING PLACEMENT OF SIGNS WITH RESPECT THERETO; REPEALING
CONFLICTING ORDINANCES TO THE EXTENT OF SUCH CONFLICT; APPLICA
TION OF THIS ORDINANCE ONLY TO STREETS OR HIGHWAYS NAMED HEREI
PROVIDING THIS ORDINANCE SHALL BE CUMULATIVE; PROVIDING A SAV-
INGS CLAUSE AND FOR PUBLICATION HEREOF, AND A PENALTY CLAUSE.
WHEREAS, the governing body of the City of Lubbock, upon the basis of
an engineering and traffic investigation finds it necessary to alter prima facie
speed limits established by Article 6701d, Section 166 {a) 1, Vernon rs Texas
Civil Statutes as amended Acts 1963, 58th Legistature, Page 455, Chapter 181,
within the area and at the location named and designated in the body of this
Ordinance, all within the corporate limits of the City of Lubbock; NOW
THEREFORE:
BE IT ORDAINCE BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK:
SE CTION 1. THAT prima facie speed limit on the following sreets and
highways in the urban district set forth below is hereby altered and changed to
60 MPH upon the following described portions of stre ets and/or highways located
within the City of Lubbock. Lubbock County, Texas, to-wit: ·
(A) On the East side of U. S. 87 beginning at a point
120 feet North of F. M. 2641 and extending Northward
to the North City Limits.
(B) On the West side of U. S. 87 bee-ginning at the North
City Limits and extending Southward to a point 120
feet North of F. M. 2641.
SECTION 2, THAT the City Manager is authorized and dir e cted to cause
the placing of signs so as to clearly define the limits of the prima fade areas
set out in this Ordinance.
SECTION 3. THAT all Ordinances or parts of Ordinances conflicting
with any of the provisions hereof are hereby repealed insofar as such conflict
exists.
SECTION 4. THAT all highways or streets not specifically set forth in
the preceding sections hereof shall not be affected by the provisions hereof, and
this Ordinance shall be cumulative of all other prima facie speed limit Ordinance
except those with which it specifically conflicts.
SECTION 5. THAT should any Section, paragraph, sentence, clause,
phrase or wor-d of this Ordinance be declared unconstitutional or invalid for any
reason, the remainder of this Ordinance shall not be affected thereby.
SECTION 6. THAT any person, firm or corporat ion violating the prima
facie speed limit established by this Ordinance shall, upon conviction, be fined
any sum not to exceed TWO HUNDRED ($200. 00) DOLLARS.
SECTION 7. THAT the City Secretary is authorized and directed to
cause the publication of the descriptive caption of this Ordinance toget her with
the penalty provision as an alternative method of publication as provided by law.
AND IT IS SO ORDERED.
