HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinance - 9502-1992 - Amendinfg Chapter 8 Amending Section 8-4 Voting Precinct Boundaries - 02/13/1992First Reading February 13, 1992 Item #16 Second Reading February 27, 1992 Item /16 ORDINANCE NO. 9502 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 8 OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK, TEXAS, BY AMENDING THE LANGUAGE OF SECTION 8-4 WITH REGARD TO VOTING PRECINCT BOUNDARIES, VOTING PLACES, AND VOTING DISTRICTS AS REQUIRED BY STATE LAW; PROVIDING A MAP OF THE VOTING PRECINCTS AND DISTRICTS OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK; PROVIDING THAT ALL PORTIONS OF CHAPTER 8 NOT AMENDED SHALL REMAIN THE SAME; PROVIDING A SAVINGS CLAUSE; PROVIDING FOR PUBLICATION; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, certain changes were made to Lubbock County voting precincts within the City of Lubbock by the Lubbock County Commissioners on January 27, 1992; and WHEREAS, Section 42.061 of the Texas Election Code mandates that city voting precinct boundaries must conform to county voting precinct boundaries within city limits; and WHEREAS, Section 276.006 of the Texas Election Code states that all changes to election district boundaries by a governmental subdivision other than a county shall not be effective for any election held w;thin five (5) months after the date of final adoption of such changes; and WHEREAS, the May 2, 1992 general city election will fall within such time period this ordinance shall become effective five (5) months from the date of final passage upon second reading; NOW THEREFORE: BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK: SECTION 1. THAT subsection 8-4(a) of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Lubbock, Texas, is hereby amended with regard to the following named voting precincts to read as follows: , Vot1ng Precinct No. 1. THAT should any section, paragraph, sentence, phrase, clause or word of this Ordinance be declared unconstitutional or invalid for any reason, the remainder of this Qrdinance shall not be affected thereby. SECTION 6. THAT the City Secretary is hereby authorized and directed to cause publication of this Ordinance'in its entirety following final passage by the City Council. -17 - SECTION 7.
