HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinance - 6048A-1983 - Amending Chapter 11, Code Of Ordinances, Fire Lanes, Section 11-13 - 07/28/1983LJM:cl ORDINANCE NO. 6048-A AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CERTAIN PORTIONS OF CHAPTER 11 OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK, TEXAS, WITH REGARD TO FIRE LANES AND PRO-VIDING A SAVINGS CLAUSE. WHEREAS, the City Council is of the opinion and deems it to be in the best interest of the health, safety and welfare of the citizens of the City of Lubbock to make the following changes to Chapter 11 of the Code of Ordinances; NOW THEREFORE: BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK: SECTION 1. THAT Chapter 11 of the Code of Ordinances, City of Lubbock, BE and is hereby amended by amending Section 11-13 to read as follows: Section 11-13 Same -Signs; obstructions generally. The owner, manager or person in charge of any building to which fire lanes or turnarounds have been designated by the fire marshal or his I designated representative shall post and maintain appropriate signs in conspicuous places along such fire lanes or turnarounds stating "NO PARKING -FIRE LANE -TOW AWAY ZONE". This may be accomplished at the owner's I preference by the use of a single sign or by the use of two signs mounted together on a single post, one designating "NO PARKING -FIRE LANE" and one designating "TOW AWAY ZONE". The fire marshal or his duly authorized representative or the chief of police or his authorized representative is hereby authorized to cause such streets, fire lanes and turnarounds to be maintained free and unobstructed at all times for fire department uses. "Appropriate signs,11 as required in these sections, shall consist of red letters painted on a white background located at not more than twenty (20) feet intervals along one side of the fire lane easement. Those letters shall be not less than three (3) inches in height as to "NO PARKING", not less than two (2) inches in height as to "FIRE LANE", and not less than one (1) inch in height as to "TOW AWAY ZONE". The curbing shall be painted solid red along the side of the fire lane easement and the perim-eter of the fire lane easement shall be outlined with broken red striping, which striping shall be at least six (6) inches wide and no more than ten (10) feet in length, with no more than ten (10) foot intervals between such stripes. SECTION 2. THAT violation of any provision of this Ordinance shall be deemed a misdemeanor punishable by a fine not to exceed TWO HUNDRED DOLLARS ($200.00) as provided in Section 1-4 of the City Code.
SECTION 3. Should any section, paragraph, sentence, clause, phrase or word of this ordinance be declared unconstitutional or invalid for any reason, the remainder of this ordinance shall not be effected thereby. B, FIRE LANE ENFORCEMENT Present Section 11-13: in conspicuous places along such fire lanes or turnarounds stating 11Fire Lane--No Parking.11 Section ll-13:11Appropriate signs,11 as required in this sections, shall consist of red letters not less than four (4) inches in height, painted on a white background located not more than fifteen (15) feet horizon-tally along the perimeter of the fire lane easement, or, as an alternative, the perimeter of the fire lane may be outlined with broken red striping, and the signs then may be painted at intervals across the fire lane with red letters not less than six (6) inches in height on a contrasting background. Proposed Section 11-13: in conspicuous places along such fire lanes or turnarounds stating 11NO PARKING -FIRE LANE -TOW AWAY ZONE.11 This may be accomplished at the owner1s preference by the use of a single sign or by the use of two signs mounted together on a single post, one designating '1NO PARKING -FIRE LANE" and one--designating 11TOW AWAY ZONE,11 Section 11-13: "Appropriate signs,11 as required in these sections, shall consist of red letters painted on a white back-ground located at not more than twenty (20) feet intervals along one side of the fire lane easement.
