ORDINANCE NO. 9861
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 6-153 OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES
OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK WITH REGARD TO RECIPROCATION WITH OTHER
CITIES UPON ELECTRICAL LICENSES AND REGISTRATION; PROVIDING AN
EFFECTIVE DATE; PROVIDING A SAVINGS CLAUSE; AND PROVIDING FOR
PUBLICATION.
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Lubbock, Texas, deems it to be in the best
.interest of the citizens of the City of Lubbock to amend Section 6-153 of the Code of Ordinances
of the City of Lubbock, Texas, in order to simplify and streamline City of Lubbock procedures
with regard to reciprocation with other cities on electrical licenses; NOW THEREFORE:
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK:
SECTION I. THAT Subsection 6-153 of the Code of Ordinances of the City of
Lubbock, Texas, is hereby amended to read as follows:
Sec. 6-153. License, Permit or Registration from other cities.
(a) A master electrician, master sign electrician, journeyman electrician, or
journeyman sign electrician, or equivalent, who has been licensed, permitted or registered
to perform electrical work in another city may apply for and receive a reciprocal license
from the City of Lubbock that is similar or equivalent to his current license from the other
. city without taking the required examination by presentation to the City of Lubbock
building official of a valid, current copy of his license from a city which has been
approved for reciprocation by the City of Lubbock Board of Electrical Examiners. In
addition, a signed and notarized letter, on city letterhead, indicating the status of the
electrician applying for the reciprocal license, the license class of the electrician, the date
of examination and the license expiration date shall be presented.
(b) The Board of Electrical examiners may approve a city for reciprocation
under the following circumstances:
(1) Both cities shall use as their Code standards the ''National
Electrical Code".
(2) Licensing requirements shall be essentially the same in both cities.
(3) Electricians from both cities shall be permitted to apply for and
receive a similar or equivalent license by reciprocity.
(c) Reciprocation approval for a city may be reviewed by the Board of
Electrical Examiners periodically after the initial approval for reciprocation is granted by
the Board to ensure there have been no material changes in conditions.
{d) A license issued under this section may be revoked or suspended for any
reasons set forth in Section 2-456 of this Code.
SECTION 2. THAT this Ordinance shall be effective from and after the date of its final
passage by the City Council of the City of Lubbock.
SECTION 3. THAT should any paragraph, sentence, clause, phrase or word of this
Ordinance be declared unconstitutional or invalid for any reason, the remainder of this Ordinance
shall not be affected thereby.
SECTION 4. THAT the City Secretary is hereby authorized and directed to cause
publication of the descriptive caption of this Ordinance as an alternative method publication
provided by law.
AND IT IS SO ORDERED.
