HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinance - 5087-1966 - Designating That Portion Of Ave U From 19Th St To 17Th Street As A One Way St. - 09/08/1966u TB:kks 248-8-66 ORDINANCE NO. 5087 ------- AN ORDINANCE DESIGNATING THAT PORTION OF AVENUE U FROM NINETEENTH STREET TO SEVENTEENTH STREET AS A ONE-WAY STREET AND PERMITTING ONLY VEHICULAR TRAFFIC PROCEEDING NORTH ON SAID PORTION OF S.AID STREET; PROVIDING FOR SIGNS TO INDICATE THAT SAID PORTION OF SAID STREET IS ONE-WAY: PRESCRIBING A PENALTY; DECLARING AN EMERGENCY; PROVIDING FOR PUBLICATION OF THE DES- CRIPTIVE CAPTION AND PENALTY CLASE HEREOF AS AN ALTERNATIVE METHOD OF PUBLICATION PROVIDED BY LAW. WHEREAS, the City Council finds that the immediate preservation of public peace, property, health and safety requires that vehicular traffic on Avenue U from Nineteenth Street to Seventeenth Street should be permitted to proceed only in a Northerly direction as more particularly hereina:fler described; and WHEREAS, the urgent need for such preservation of public peace, proper y, health and 5afety creates an emergency requiring suspension of the rules provid" g for two readings of an ordinance before final passage thereof, NOW THEREIORE BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK: SECTION 1. THAT portion of Avenue U in the City of Lubbock, Lubboc County, Texas, from Nineteenth Street to Seventeenth Street is hereby designate as a one-way street and only vehicular traffic proceeding North on Avenue U beginning at its intersection with Nineteenth Street to its intersection with Seven- teenth Street shall be permitted thereon. SECTION 2. The traffic engineer is hereby authorized and directed to place or cause the placing of the necessary traffic signs to indicate that the por- tion of Avenue U described in Section 1 hereof is a one-way street. SECTION 3. Any person operat,ing a vehicle in violation of the foregoing provisions of this Ordinance shall upon conviction be fined any sum not to exceed $200.00 SECTION 4. The fact that the City Council has found conditions describe in the preamble creating an emergency requir~s that the rules requiring two readings of an Ordinance before its final passage are hereby suspended. SECTION 5. The aty Secretary is. hereby authorized and directed to cause publication of the descriptive caption and penalty clause hereof as an alter native method of publication as provided by law and this Ordinance shall become effective ten (10} days after its last publication.
