MENT OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK WITHIN 24 HOURS AFTER SUCH MOTOR VEHICLE IS RECEIVED~ GIVING THE ENGINE NUMBER, REGISTRATION NUM BER1 THE NAME AND ADDRESS OF THE OWNER OR OPERATOR OF SUCH VEHICLE; AND RETURNING ANY STICKER PLACED ON THE WINDSHIEDD OF AN AUTOMOBILE BY AN OFFICERJ0F THE LUBBOCK POLICE DEPARTMENT; PROVIDING A PENALTY; AND AUTHORIZING AND DIRECTING THE CITY SECRETARY TO CAUSE PUBLICATION OF THE DESCRIPTIVE CAPTION AND PENALTY CLAUSE HEREOF AS AN ALTERNATE METHOD OF PUBLICATION PROVIDED BY LAW. WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Lubboc k finds that many person are not reporting accidents aserequired by law, and thus escaping responsibility for their conduct; and, 0 WHEREAS, such persons could be apprehended if accident reports were - required from persons engaging in the business of repairing damage to automo- biles as set out herein; and, WHEREAS, the authority for requiring such reports has been granted by Article 670ld, Section 49 (b), Vernon1s Annotated Statutes; and, WHEREAS, such legislation is necessary to protect the health, safety, property~ and general welfare of the Citizens of the City of Lubbock, NOW THEREFORE: BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK: SECTION 1. THAT the Code of Ordinan.ces, City of Lubbock., Texas .. is hereby amended by adding a new subsection to be numbered 18-37 (d), which said subsection reads as follows: 11{d) Every person in charge of any garage or repiar shop within the corporate limits of the City of Lubbock to which is brought any motor vehicle which shows evidence of having been involved in an accident of which report must be rrade as pr~vided in Section 44 of Article 670ld, Vernon1s Ann~tated Civil Statutes, or struck by any bullet., shall, unless the motor vehicle bears a sticker indica- ting that the Lubbock Pol~ce Department has investigated the cause of damage, report to the Police Department of the City of Lubbock within 24 hours after such motor vehicle is received., giving the engine number, registration number# the name and address of the owner or operator of such vehicle. If the vehicle bears a sticker indicating that the Lubbock Police Department has investigated the cause of damage~ the sticker shall be removed and retained andre- turned to the Lubbock Police Department upon demand. 11 SECTION 2. Any person~ firm or corporation violating any provision of Section 1 hereof shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and shall, upon final conviction thereof, be fined in an amount not exceeding TWO HUNDRED ($200. 00) DOLLARS. SECTION 3. The City Secretary is herebyl"authorized and directed to caus publication of the descriptive caption and penalty clause hereof as an alternate method of publication provided by law.
