ORDINANCE NO. 9922 -----------
AN ORDINANCE CREATING AN EXCEPTION TO .SECTION 24-26 OF THE
CODE OF ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK BY CHANGING THE NAME OF
6TH STREET FROM BOSTON A VENUE TO U.S. 82 TO "DRIVE OF CHAMPIONS",
DIRECTING THE CITY ENGINEER TO REVISE THE OFFICIAL MAP OF THE CITY AND
THE MAP FOR STREET NAMING TO REFLECT SUCH CHANGE; REQUIRING THE
CITY ENGINEER TO NOTIFY ALL GOVERNMENTAL AGENCIES OF SAID NAME
CHANGE; REQUIRING THE BUILDING OFFICIAL TO NOTIFY TO ALL BUSINESSES
AND RESIDENCES HAVING A MAILING ADDRESS UPON SAID STREET OF THE
NAME CHANGE; AUTHORIZING THE CITY TRAFFIC ENGINEER TO INSTALL THE
APPROPRIATE STREET SIGNS ALONG SAID "DRIVE OF CHAMPIONS".
WHEREAS, on the 11th day of July, 1996, representatives of the Committee for
Champions appeared before the City Council of the City of Lubbock to recommend that the name
of 6th Street from Boston Avenue to U.S. 82 be changed to "Drive of Champions";
WHEREAS, the City Council has determined that the change hereinabove requested
would be in the best interest of all the citizens of the City of Lubbock; NOW THEREFORE:
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK:
SECTION 1. THAT an exception to Section 24-26 of the Code of Ordinances of the
City of Lubbock is hereby created by changing the name of 6th Street to "Drive of Champions".
SECTION 2. THAT the City Engineer is directed to change the official map of the City
of Lubbock to reflect the above name change and to further change the map for street naming
maintained by the City Engineer to reflect the above change.
SECTION 3: THAT the City Engineer shall notify all governmental agencies of the name
change hereinabove set forth.
SECTION 4. THAT the Building Official shall further notify all businesses and
residences having mailing addresses upon said street of the change of name.
SECTION 5. THAT the City Traffic Engineer is authorized to install identifying street
name signs.
SECTION 6. THAT this Ordinance shall be effective on final passage by the City
Council.
AND IT IS SO ORDERED.
