HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinance - 4398-1964 - Standard Dog License Fee Be Suspended During The Month Of May. - 04/23/1964- BJMcG:jlrn 4-6 O'+-;;ta-IQwLt ORDINANCE NO., 4398 ·----- AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING THAT THE STANDARD DOG LICENSE FEE BE SUSPENDED FOR DOGS LICENSED DURING THE MONTH OF MAY OF EACH YEAR; PROVIDING THAT A LICENSE TAG SHALL BE ISSUED WITHOUT FEE DURING THE MONTH OF MAY UPON PROOF THAT A DOG HAS BEEN VACCIN- ATED; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EMERGENCY. WHEREAS.,. the City Council of the City of Lubbock has found that the dog population of the City of Lubbock is approximately 50, 000, of which only approx- imately ten percent (lOo/o) are licensed and vaccinated each year; and WHEREAS., the City Council has found that approximately l.t 000 dogs are picked up by the City Animal Warden each month.t from which approximately 900 are destroyed; and WHEREAS,. the City Council is of the opinion that the safety and welfare of the citizens of Lubbock will be better served i1 a much larger percentage of dogs would be vaccinated; NOW THEREFORE BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK: SECTION 1. THAT the Aniluallicense fee of One Dollar ( $1., 00} levied up- on dogs in the City of Lubbock by Ordinance No. 1567 and Section 4-28 of the Lubbock City Code be and is hereby suspended during the month of May for each year, beginning in 19 64.~ and that all dogs in the City of Lubbock who are taken to veterinarians for vaccination during the month of May of each year shall be licens4 , after such vaccination by a duly qualified veterinarian for the said veterinariants regular fee, without the annual One Dollar ($1. 00) license fee imposed by Ordinan~e No. 1567. SECTION 2. THAT the City Animal Warden:t the City Health officials and other proper City officials employ all necessary means to inform the public of this J program to encourage vaccination of all dogs in the City of Lubbock~ and to educat 1 the public as to the need of vaccination for all dogs in the City. SECTION 3. Inasmuch as the safety and welfare of the public is directly affected hereby~ and the daily operation of City departments are affected1 an emer gency is declared and this Ordinance shall take effect immediately.
