L( D. 57) C:8-2Z-C\LP~ ORDINANCE NOo 4170 ~~ tf '} "} AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING THE ALTERING AND CHANGING OF THE PRIMA FACIE 1:;r SPEED LIMIT FROM _JO MILES PER HOUR TO 55 Mll.ES PER HOUR ON THAT PORTION OF THE STREE't'S DESCRIBED AS FOLLOWS: On the south side of S2nd Street beginning one-half mile east of Slide Road and extending east to College Avenue. AUTHORIZING THE PLACING OF SPEED LIMIT SIGNS; PRESCRIBING A PENALTY_; PROVIDING FOR PUBLICATION; AND DECLARING AN' maRGENCY; AND PROVIDING FOR THE EFFECTIVE DATE OF THIS ORDINANCE. ~EAS, the governing body9 as authorized b.1 Article A27a, Sec. B, Vernon's Annctated Penal Code, finds that certain prima facie speed limits on certain highways are different from wha.t is reasonable or safe and should be altered and the immediatg preservation of public health and safety requires immediate alteration of said prima facie speed limits as hereafter set forth, which creates an emergency; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CIT.Y OF LUB~OCK: S~TION 1. T'ne prima facie speed limit established by Article B27a, Sec. B, Subsection 1 (b), Vernon 1s Annotated Penal Code is altered and changed for all vehicles to 55 miles per hour on the following designated highways or street in the corporate limits of the City of Lubbock, Lubbock County, 'T( ( u Texas, to-wit: On the south side of 82nd Street beginning one-half · mile east of Slide Road and extending east to College Avenue. SECTION 2. The City Manager is authorized and directed to cause the placing of signs so as to clearly define the limits of the prima facie areas set out in this Ordinance o SECTION 3o Any person~ firm or corporation violating the prima facie speed limit established by this Ordinance shall upon conviction be fined in any sum not to exceed TWO HUNDRED DOLlARS ($200 .. 00) and for subsequent viola- tions within one year thereafter shall be prosecuted as prescribed for such violations by Sec:o 15 of Article 827a, Vernon 1s Annotated Penal Code. SECTION 4. The City Secretary is authorized and directed to cause the publication of the descriptive caption of this Ordir..c.nce together with the penalty provision as an alternative method of publication as provided by law.
