SO AS TO PROHffiiT THE CONTINUOUS PARKING OF A VEHICLE FOR A LONGER PERIOD OF TIME THAN 120 MINUTES IN 2 HOUR AND 1 HOUR PARKING METER ZONES• 48 MINUTES IN 24 MINUTE METER ZONES~ AND 24 MINUTES IN 12 MINUTE PARKING METER ZONES; AND PROVIDING FOR PUBLICATION AND AN EFFECTIVE D:ATE FOR THIS ORDINANCE-. WHEREAS~· the parking of vehicles for a entire day or major portions there , f in parking meter zones by depositing coins in parking meters so as to continuous y park a vehicle for a longer period of time than the parking limits provide in the var ious parking meter zones has created a serious parking condition in downtown Lubb · c resulting in parking spaces in various parking meter zones being unavailable to many persons who desire to transact business in downtown Lubbock~ and; WHEREAS;a it is the desire of the City Commission to provide a maximum continuous parkfng period of 120 minutes in 2 hour and 1 hour parking meter zones, 48 minutes in 24 minute parking meter zones and 24 minutes in 12 minute parking meter zones so as to make available parking spaces for a greater number of perso s who desi;r.e to transact business in downtown Lubbock; and" WHEREAS" these parking limits for parking meter zones will provide a mo e efficient method of enforcement by the Police Department by mar.king the tires of parked vehicles; and" ·wHEREAS-. such enforcement will be cumulative of parking meter violation and will not extend the time required to violate the parking time limits as registere · by the parking meters., NOW THEREFORE: BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK: SECTION 1. THAT Section 18-105, Article Vll., Division 2., of the Code of Ordinances,. City of Lubbock., is hereby amended to read as follows: Sec. 18-105. Hours of operation; maximwn parking time permitted. When parking meter spaces are indicated by lines or metal markers upon :;: the surface of the streets in the parking meter zones and when parking mete s are installed adjacent to or adjoining such respective parking spaces, no vehicle shall remain parkBd within any spaces within any zone for a longer continuous period than one hundred and twenty minutes at any time between the hours.of eight o1clock a.m. and five otclock p .. m. on any day, except Sundays and holidays officially designated by the city commission; provided,~ however, that in every twenty-four minute parking meter zone no vehicle shall remain continuously parked in such parking space for a period of time greater than forty-eight minutes and that in every twelve minute parking meter zone... no vehicle shall remain continuously par~Gl in such parking space for a period of time greater than twenty-four minutes., during the hou s and days aforesaid. . {'; ! SECTION 2. The City Secretary shall cause the publication of this Ord.inanc e once a week for two consecutive weeks in a newspaper regularly published in the City of Lubbock,. and this Ordinance shall become effective ten days after its last publication.
