AND REPEALING SECTION 3 OF ORDINANCE NO. ~~ 1211 AS FINALLY PASSED ON MAY 8, 1952~ SO AS TO AUTHORIZE LEFT HAND I TURNS BY VEHICLES ON ALL FOUR APPROACHES TO THE INTERSECTION OF COLLEGE AVENUE AND BROADWAY,. IN THE CITY OF LUBBOCK; DEFINING THE INTENT OF THIS ORDINANCE; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. I r I WHEREAS~ under the terms of Ordinance No. 1270 as finally passed on September 14~ 1952, and Section 3 of Ordinance No. 1211 as finally passed May 8, 1952, left turns by vehicular traffic at the intersection of College Avenue and Broadway were prohibited except for west bound traffic on Broadway .. to remedy a dangerous traffic hazard due to the width of the streets involved; and, WHEREAS~ the City of Lubbock has now acquired additional street right of way on the most congested approaches to said intersection ; and WHEREAS.~~ such intersection has now been widened to such extent as to safely allow a separate left hand turn lane on all four approaches. and the City Commission finds that the repeal of all prohibitions against left hand turns at such intersection is necessary and essential to the protection of the health and safety of the citizens of the City of Lubbock and is in the public interest; NOW THEREFORE BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF LUBBOCK: SECTION 1. THAT Ordinance No. 1270 as finally passed by the City Com- mission of the City of Lubbock, Texas, on the 14th day of September. 1952~ the caption of said ordinance reading as follows: 11AN ORDINANCE PROHIBITING THE LEFT TURN OF VEHICLES FROM COLLEGE AVENUE ONTO BROADWAY; PROHIBITING THE LEFT TURN OF VEHICLES FROM COLLEGE AVENUE ONTO THE COLLEGE CAMPUS AT BROADWAY; PROVIDING A PENALTY; AUTHORIZING PUBLICATION; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. 11 BE, and the same is hereby in all things repealed. SECTION 2. THAT Section 3 of Ordinance No. 1211 as finally passed of the City Commission of the City of Lubbock. Texas, on the 8th day of May, 1952, which said Section 3 reads as follows: 11Section 3. It shall be unlawful for any person operating a motor vehicle of any kind to make a left turn from the College Campus at the Broadway Exit onto College A venue. 11 BE, and the same is hereby in all things repealed. SECTION 3. It is the intent of this Ordinance by repeal of the Ordinances and part thereof more fully described to remove all existing prohibitions against left hand turns by motor vehicular traffic on all four approaches to the intersec- tion of College Avenue and Broadway in the City of Lubbock, Lubbock County, Texas. SECTION. 4. This ordinance shall become effective immed.iately upon the final. passage thereof.
